Journalist notes[edit]

I chatted briefly with Sir Philip Craven following the first day of competition where I whinged about how Haiti had more live Paralympic coverage than the United States. Craven said that the USA would have live and substantial coverage of the 2016 Rio Games. (Yes, I introduced myself, gave him my card, and told him about the HOPAU project.)

Following the second day of competition, I was chatting with a member Team USA whose name I failed to get, but I did introduce myself as a reporter covering the event. I asked for confirmation about what Sit Philip said and he was unable to verify it. He did say his coaches had mentioned something about the media, or possibly a USA television crew from Universal being at the competition (Though neither he nor I had seen them). He also said the younger members of the team were bowling at the bowling alley attached to the hotel they were/are staying at. They were taking advantage of the schedule change to do this. He also said they would be training. (He was a standing Team USA skier. A bit older.) He also talked about the challenges of his friends and family and other fans of the Paralympics in finding video and other news from London, and how they were often scouring YouTube for clips from the Games.

The training thing was mentioned by some one in the Press Center, and it is also found on the Twitter account that they were training on the mountain. (Apparently, some photographer got kicked off for taking pictures of a closed training session.)

Bathum is really loud. Following both of his runs, he spent a minute or so at the bottom of the hill talking with his guide. http://twitter.com/msefi recorded live the gist of one of his remarks. Following his downhill performance, he told his guide about how unhappy he was with the run and how they could have improved on gate 23. Following his Super-G run, he talked about how happy he was with the run, how much fun he had with the run, and how it was a better run for him than the previous competition day's run.

The loud speaker talked about Nichols being a 2010 Paralympic medalist. She was considered one of the favourites going into the race and that she did not start was considered big news. The rest of the result information can be found in the packets sent to scoop, on the IPC results page, or in the related news section. --LauraHale (talk) 06:11, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Almost forgot the weather. The weather yesterday was pretty nice during the day. It felt warmer than Thursday. Around 4 or 5pm, it started blustery snowing with some reduced visibility. This was for about a half hour to hour. There was a lot of wind that you could hear howling that continued to howl until around 10pm. There was some winds yesterday that I heard, and heard about but there were no reports on Twitter or the press room about problems with the training session. There was no noticiable snow accumulation and the roads look wet but clear. This was the situation when I woke up yesterday too: Looked like some snow but mostly just wet. No additional problems walking around. --LauraHale (talk) 06:46, 23 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]

I e-mailed the results for the downhill, super-g and start list for the slalom to scoop. I should also have sent them to drop box. --LauraHale (talk) 06:56, 24 February 2013 (UTC)[reply]
