Shame[edit]

(referring to the assassination) What a shame... Towsonu2003 21:14, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Not condemning[edit]

I had to remove the text that condemns his assassination after Brianmc tagged the article for cleanup. I would like to ask everyone, as I added as a comment when I removed the condemnation text: well, if you don't condemn a fellow journalist's murder, what are you/we gonna condemn? I seriously do not think that our fears should stop us from talking out loud when sh*t like this happens... Journalists (or anyone, for that matter) should not shut up and shake with fear. The text that I had to remove read as follows:

Wikinews contributors strongly condemn this disgusting assassination and hope that the cowards who murdered Mr. Dink will be brought to justice as soon as possible.

That comment is opinion, we don't do that round these parts. The issue with the article now is that it's encyclopedic. All the details of previously killed journalists isn't news. A summary of "x journalist have been killed in Turkey since 19yy, the last being z" would be a more appropriate close to a news item. --Brian McNeil / talk 22:12, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
done that, thanks for the suggestion Towsonu2003 22:18, 19 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

"Witnesses say that after being shot, he was able to stand up for a while, extending his hand in search of help, which never came."

Is this a worthy sentence to stay in Wikipedia?--85.108.76.151 10:53, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

yes I believe so. it is a witness account taken from sources listed below the article and it is interesting. Towsonu2003 18:45, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Misleading information..[edit]

In Turkey, If you shout at street like "genocide was committed to Armenian by Turk", noone give you a dam, noone will care.. So I think he became target to put Turkey in a bad position. He was not famous or well known person.. It is totally meaningless.. He was killed on purpose.. Armenians are happy with living in Turkey, Noone is discussing a genocide here..--[onur_prg] 88.235.38.49 12:00, 20 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

whether the genocide happened, or whether Armenians are happy in Turkey is seriously offtopic, but your thought of "If you shout at street like "genocide was committed to Armenian by Turk", noone give you a dam" is wrong. please don't try it at home... -I saw many people shouting for PKK and APO (terorist organization) in meetings and nothing happens.. see the stupid murder even doesn't know about armenian genocide.. So, why this news artical says about armenian genocide?? The stupid murder says that I killed him because he insulted turks.. Nothing about genocide. I mean I dont find any relation between genocide thing and this murder.. Noone kills you for claiming genocide.. I hope I could have axplained. Stupid European press says Turkey should start to face with his history (because of this stupid kid) as if their history were very clean..~~ onur_prg —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 88.235.38.49 (talkcontribs) 18:01, January 21, 2007

17[edit]

The assassin was 17 years old, not 18-19 (For info:w:Ogün Samast) Vikiçizer (talk) 09:46, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

This is an interesting example of the nature of news — news is a snapshot of what was known at its moment in time, and makes clear qualifications on information to avoid mistakes. Although Wikipedia itself is not a reliable source, the Wikipedia article does in turn reference a BBC article from the day after this one, stating the assassin's age as 16–17. If our article had made an unqualified statement that the assassin was 18–19, that would be an error and would now require a {{correction}} on the article. However, our article did not say that; instead, it said the assassin's age had been reported to be 18–19, and this is in fact true. So, not done. --Pi zero (talk) 11:49, 1 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
