NPOV

[edit]

One sided. Single organizations are generally not NPOV. Who/What oragnization objects to this list...?? Jason Safoutin 22:48, 27 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Reporters without borders is a notable organisation, it's views on press freedom are frequently cited as an informed estimate. if u can find the US government or organisations which respond to these views, please go ahead and add them, o/w this article repors RoB reports accurately and with proper attribution. i see no reason for a pov tag.  — Doldrums(talk) 10:59, 28 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
Well the discussion on ISO was the same. We cannot rely on the belief of a single organization. Others may have different views or orders of ranks. To say this ONE organization is right, notable or not, is POV. Jason Safoutin 21:39, 29 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
The POV is irrelevant; the news is not that the US has low press freedom, but that the 2006 Index has been released. Anyway, since this is not the United States Wikinews, but rather the English-speaking one, the focus of this article should probably be changed to a more international viewpoint. Well, presumably a title like "U.S. ranks 53rd in RWB press freedom index" or "U.S. ranks 53rd in RSF press freedom index" should solve part of this problem without requiring much additional work on the article. "RWB" or "RSF" would need to be specified as the abbreviation of Reporters... in the article (personally i think of them as RSF, but then i'm biased ;). As for focussing on the US, it's true that the US is the world's superpower, many of whose supporters (e.g. George W Bush) claim that it's a place of freedom and democracy and has the right to impose its concepts of freedom and democracy on other countries, so the fact that it is classified quite low on the index is IMHO a reasonably relevant fact to a world-wide english-speaking audience. So IMHO, just adding "RWB" in the title should be enough. Boud 22:32, 30 October 2006 (UTC)Reply
