'Israel suspends air strikes after Qana raid tragedy' Whats pov whith this title ? international 00:59, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I tried a less diplomatic headline without using the loaded word "tragedy". --Jambalaya 01:05, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Tragedy it is...but it is very very very loaded as it is an ongoing investigation...IDF does claim rockets came from that area...and either way it is a tragedy using the word tragedy when it could have been a military strike that was an attack on a military installation...it wouldn't fit. I clearly see the writer with a POV, shameful.--Flyintothesky 09:30, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Did Israel confirm the announcement?[edit]

Do we have a statement from an Israeli official confirming this? How does this announcement square with Haaretz:

Even though the prime minister announced that Israel will continue its attacks against Hezbollah, even after the sad incident at Qana, and will not accept the demand for an immediate, unconditional cease-fire - he did accede to the American request to limit air-force operations in the area of Beirut.

Limiting air-force operations over Beirut is very different from suspending air strikes in general. Unless we can get a quote from an Israeli offcial the language in the article should reflect more clearly that the base for the news is only an unconfirmed claim by an american diplomat.--vonbergm 16:39, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Quote

July 31: Prime Minister's Office: The IDF will restrict air strikes over Lebanon for up to 48 hours, until the army probe into the Qana tragedy is completed. Israel will allow, in coordination with the UN, safe passage for the residents of south Lebanon wishing to evacuate the area within 24 hours, and will also operate ground and sea corridors for humanitarian aid.

Israel has agreed to a 48-hour suspension of aerial activity in South Lebanon while it investigates today’s tragic incident in Qana. Israel has, of course, reserved the right to take action against targets preparing attacks against it. During this time, Israel will coordinate with the UN to allow a 24-hour period of safe passage for all residents of South Lebanon who wish to leave. Humanitarian convoys remain in effect. We expect that Israel will implement these decisions so as to significantly speed and improve the flow of humanitarian aid.The United States welcomes this decision and hopes that it will help to relieve the suffering of the children and families of Southern Lebanon.

Doldrums, the second one is the statement by US officials, the first one does not support the claim that air attacks are "suspended". The difference between "restricted" and "suspended" is quite big, in particular if you are on the receiving end. The quotes you supplied seem to further support the discrepancy between what the US diplomates are saying and what the Israeli government is saying. I still believe the article should pay more attention to this. --vonbergm 21:57, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
NOt anymore...they resumed airstrikes when Hezbollah attacked a line of Tanks with a missile. Jason Safoutin 22:03, 31 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]
