Questions[edit]
1. Does being "a sanctuary for recreational cannabis customers, providers, and landlords." imply that children may consume cannabis in the area? --Gryllida 02:11, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
2. Precisely how is a "sanctuary" defined? --Gryllida 02:11, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- 1) I drew the quote directly from the resolution the city passed. I don't think it implies children would be free to use pot, since that's covered under state law (it's treated like alcohol and tobacco here, 21+ only). Perhaps I could make it clearer somehow.
- 2) I was debating whether to put that term in quotes. It's not defined by the city beyond saying they won't be helping the feds enforce federal law in Berkeley. It seems borrowed from another term "sanctuary city" in reference to cities who don't assist federal immigration officials. —mikemoral (talk) 03:12, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
- I added in the age restriction and put in quotes the first use of "sanctuary." I think second paragraph clarifies somewhat what Berkeley meant by the word, that city employees are barred from assisting in enforcing federal cannabis laws. Perhaps that's enough? —mikemoral (talk) 05:17, 16 February 2018 (UTC)
