I am not completely sure what the intention was, but..

1. Wikinews was officially approved by the Wikimedia Foundation's board of trustees. That is why the demo version started, and the announcement was made on Foundation-l and other mailing lists.
2. Wikinews is perhaps officially launched when it became "en.wikipedia.org," getting rid of "demo" out of its URL. Of course, things are in formation, and we bear "Beta" in our logo. So what is official launch is a bit open to interpretation.

Why do we have an encyclopedia article on a news site? Shouldn't this page be on Wikipedia? Dan100 15:03, 8 Jan 2005 (UTC)
