I recall a few years ago, while driving down the I-25 through Weld County, my father in-law pointing out a distant hill overlooking the town of Niwot where, he claimed, one would occasionally see the conflagration of burning crosses. (this would have been back in the 50's, I believe).

I am not trying to lump the sensibilities of the population of northeastern Colorado together with this anecdote - the purpose of my recounting it is to stress the quite substantial differences between the City of Denver and rural areas of Colorado.
