On Saturday, March 28, the Mexican navy announced that it was in radio communication with two sailboats transporting humanitarian aid to Cuba as part of the "Nuestra América Convoy". The boats were located by the Mexican navy after being reported missing.
The boats, known as Friend Ship and Tiger Moth, left Isla Mujeres, near Cancun, in the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, on March 20 for a roughly 250-mile (400-km) crossing to Havana. The boats had at least nine people onboard, according to the Mexican navy. The boats were scheduled to arrive in Havana around Tuesday or Wednesday but did not do so.
The Mexican navy announced on Thursday, March 26, that they were engaged in a search and rescue operation for the missing boats.
A representative of the convoy stated that the crew members were safe and were continuing on their way to Havana, where they arrived on Saturday afternoon. The navy had lost contact with the boats due to bad weather.
