Nepal had been granted T20 international status by ICC alongside Netherlands as an honour to their exceptionally well performances in the recently held T20 world cup, which was held in Bangladesh

from 16 March to 6 April 2014. Now the number of T20I side had reached 18 which includes 10 full member i.e. test nations, six ODI nation and two T20 nation including Nepal. Other associates include Hongkong, Ireland, UAE, Papuna New Geni, Scotland and Afganistan.

Both Nepal and Netherlands had played exceptionally well in the tournament, Netherlands qualifying ahead of Zimbabwe and Ireland, former the test nation and later ODI nation while Nepal failed to reach Group Stage narrowly only in Net run rate. Despite being unable to quality to the second round, Nepal had won the heart of million of Cricket fans including the cricketing legends with their positive attitude towards game and competitive manner shown towards the stronger sites like Bangaledesh and Afginastan.
