Today, a U.S. grand jury indicted Boston Marathon bombing suspect Dzhohkhar Tsarnaev on thirty charges, including killing four people and using weapons of mass destruction. Some of the charges are punishable by the death penalty.

Prosecutors added new charges, including the carjacking of a SUV and the slaughter of an MIT police officer, to the ones that had already been brought in April against the suspect. The new charges are related to the escape attempt during which the accused accidentally slew his older brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, by running him over.

The improvised explosive devices allegedly fashioned out of pressure cookers by the two brothers killed three people and wounded more than 260 near the marathon's finish line on April 15.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was caught in a boat parked in a backyard in Watertown, Mass. four days later, where he lay wounded. According to the indictment, inside it, he had scribbled messages such as “The U.S. Government is killing our innocent civilians,” “I can't stand to see such evil go unpunished,” and “We Muslims are one body you hurt one you hurt us all.”

The indictment suggests that the brothers became radicalized mostly because of the Internet, rather than having any direct ties to known terrorist organizations. They used the Internet to gather information about jihad and obtain bomb-making instructions from an Al-Qaida magazine.
