From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!

I hope it was not a dynamic IP. There are some issues with the article which I have raised on the article talk page. Please have a look and update the article. It should not take much time. Also don't forget to re-submit the article once you have updated it.

Welcome to Wikinews (and maybe create an account?? Then messaging you is easier :-) )[edit]

Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems.

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Re Flood in Carolina[edit]

Hello here is a copy of the reviewer comments plus my comments below:

Please view these comments here at the talk page of the article and make edits at your convenience, as soon as possible. --Gryllida (chat) 00:46, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Under review[edit]

You've been making major edits to an article that is {{under review}}, being exhaustively inspected by an authorized reviewer (me) with a banner at the top that says please do not edit this article directly but instead provide any input through comments on the talk page. --Pi zero (talk) 03:22, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I not-ready'd the earlier state of the article; your edits are there, but aren't part of what was reviewed. You may want to take a look at my review comments (on the article talk page). --Pi zero (talk) 03:29, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
(Sorry for any confusion.) --Pi zero (talk) 03:30, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]
Just to make it clear: you are welcome to edit the article now.
(This is because it is no longer marked with the 'under review' banner anymore.)
Cheers, --Gryllida (chat) 03:58, 19 September 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for the story -- it seems a bit old. Obituaries imply a recent death; this one doesn't have a recent event in the first place, from what I can see.

Perhaps add another one? At first a shorter story can also be added, saving the time for you and the reviewers.

May I ask you whether you live in the United States? I'm seeing a slight focus on US topics although across several different states. Gryllida chat / how do YOU get started? 02:54, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

I live in Massachusetts and my state was hit by Hurricane Florence on the morning I wrote my article about that storm. The recent event in my obituary article is that Daniel Barden would have become a teenager last week. 173.76.101.2 (talk) 03:42, 2 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request for an unfair block[edit]

{{unblock|Yesterday afternoon, I noticed that my IP address was blocked on Wikipedia in the morning. (I live in the Eastern Time Zone.) As far as I know, I have not made any vandal edits or willingly made disruptive edits here or there since the end of my block from October 9. I was acting in good faith when I made this edit from Sunday. When I get my editing privileges back, I will resume good edits rather than the senseless vandalism I made two weeks ago. 173.76.101.2 (talk) 12:44, 23 October 2018 (UTC)}}[reply]

This is Wikinews, rather than Wikipedia. This IP is not currently blocked on Wikinews, although it was blocked for a week, about three weeks ago. I suspect there may be multiple parties using the IP, so some collateral damage may occur when blocking action is taken to prevent problematic edits by some individuals. If possible, you may want to register an account, so that you can then use the account even if the underlying IP is blocked due to someone else's edits. --Pi zero (talk) 13:28, 23 October 2018 (UTC)[reply]
