Welcome!

202.4.4.48, welcome to Wikinews! Thank you for your contributions I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

Here are some other hints and tips:

  • I would recommend that you get a username. You don't have to log in to read or edit articles on Wikinews, but creating an account is quick, free and non-intrusive, requires no personal information, and there are many benefits of having a username. (If you edit without a username, your IP address is used to identify you instead.)
  • When using talk pages, please sign your name at the end of your messages by typing four tildes (~~~~). This will automatically produce your username (or IP address) and the date.

If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! — Doldrums(talk) 07:44, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Philippines articles[edit]

The two articles on Philippines u published contain a substantial amount of text copied from another news source. Until Wikinews can confirm that that news source agrees to Wikinews republishing their work, Wikinews cannot publish these articles. Also, the location in the dateline is only used for articles that have Original reporting, so i've removed it from these articles.  — Doldrums(talk) 07:44, 22 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

You're the best! How's the confirmation? --202.4.4.47 06:21, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
The source states that anyone can use their contents with attribution and notification - i.e., we shld inform/take permission. as far as i can make out, that does not make it compatible with our CCA license, which does not place any "notification" restriction. i've mailed to the site asking for permission to use their material and have not received any response so far. i intend to wait for one more day for a response. if i don't receive one, then i will delete the article as a copyvio. one way to avoid that is to rewrite the article, using the Bulatlat article as a source - this is what we usually do on Wikinews, instead of simply copying their article here. if u'd like someone else to look at the article to check the copyright status, feel free to post a note on Wikinews:Water cooler/assistance.  — Doldrums(talk) 09:36, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

TxtPower article[edit]

i think this article is way out of bounds of what is acceptable on Wikinews. i would suggest u take a careful look at Wikinews:Content guide and WN:NPOV and do try to make a better effort to conform to these policies. repeating defamatory statements, making editorial comments and compiling various events to "make a case" in a Wikinews article is not acceptable, and such articles are likely to be deleted unless they are fixed up.  — Doldrums(talk) 09:53, 23 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]
