Deleting Recording Studios On Your Kitchen Table[edit]
Hi Tom Poe,
Wikinews does not accept either press releases or reviews, as is explained in Wikinews:What Wikinews is not and Wikinews:Content guide. The article at the time I viewed it appeared to be a review written by someone associated with the product (also known as a press release) which qualifies under #6 in the Wikinews:Speedy deletion guidelines as advertising.
If there were a news event associated with the product and which was the focus of the article, this would not have qualified for a speedy deletion. I may have deleted in error - we all make mistakes and I more often than many - and if so the article can be restored. If I've made a mistake, please leave me a message on my talk page. - Amgine 19:42, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
- News stories focus on a single current event or phenomenon. A review such as yours does not focus on an event, but on a product. An example of another not-for-profit organization which has a product is a political party, which produces candidates and platforms; we do not allow their reviews either. The spring haircut event *was* discussed as possibly a review or support, except the article was written after the event and focused on the event itself.
- News is factual. And, incidentally, all factual statements must be sourced from a qualified source, one which is considered unlikely to be biased in its assessment of the facts.
- Articles must be written from a neutral point of view. Generally speaking, it is not possible to write a review or an editorial which complies with NPOV.
- News is relevant. On this point alone your article meets the content guidelines; it is relevant. This is not enough to overcome its other shortcomings, in my opinion.
- Please realise I am not making a judgement about your article itself; it seemed well-written and reasonable. I am making a judgement as to how it fits the Wikinews policies and guidelines as they have been created by the community at large; I've personally argued in favour of reviews. Based on those policies and guidelines your article, as it was written, would qualify for speedy deletion.
- A different article, perhaps based on a software version release, or inclusion in a noteworthy distribution/industry event, or some other news event, could certainly be written and published at Wikinews. And I encourage you to write it. - Amgine 20:38, 15 November 2005 (UTC)
