Copyright violation issues[edit]

Hi, thanks for your contributions. One note though: please see this this article's edit history and the talk page. Before I rewrote parts of the article, several sentences had been copied verbatim from the sources - that constitutes a copyright violation in most cases (see WN:C). Please be careful to write everything in your own words, and not to allow your prose to sound too much like that of your sources. Thanks. (P.S. I replied to your message on my talk page.) Tempodivalse [talk] 19:23, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks for your help. Noted for copyvio: I tried to rewrite everything but got sloppy on those sentences; I'll be much more thorough next time. Regards -- Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 19:29, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]
No worries. :-) Tempodivalse [talk] 20:01, 17 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Hello[edit]

Hello, you talk in Russian? SergeyJ (talk) 02:14, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Extremely badly these days due to lack of practice, but yes. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 10:01, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Возможно Вы смогли бы помочь в переводе на английский моего интервью для статьи здесь Talk:Russian Wikiversity launched? Или даже помочь в подготовке самой статьи ? SergeyJ (talk) 19:10, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
нет проблем! ;) --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 21:53, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Тогда, как у Вас появится время - улучшите автоперевод моего интервью (там есть оба варианта - русский и автоперевод на английский, который имеет плохое качество) SergeyJ (talk) 21:05, 3 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Проблема. "Newsworthiness" еще не согласованы. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 09:42, 4 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
Эту статью, между прочим, уже удалили, так как она больше недели была без изменения и была {{abandoned}} - то есть, <<брошенная>>. Tempodivalse [talk] 15:04, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
ОК Спасибо Tempodivalse --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 15:33, 7 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Pure vandalism/Blatant vandalism.[edit]

Yeah, Alex i decided to put "Blatant vandalism on the tag", good correcting me though and getting rid of that junk which is considered to be "Pure vandalism". Good work!. I'll try and help out as much as I can, when I'am around. Busy, sometimes not always though. Okay, Thanks again for the Welcoming Message! :) --MoodieBluesy2010 (talk) 16:49, 5 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I intend to do some work on this, but it may need to head to my userspace. There appears to have been a misinterpretation in the reporting so I'd like to know what they actually found out by speaking to the team and reading the paper. That will take a little time. Welcome[edit]

Welcome to Wikinews

A nice cup of coffee for you while you get started

Getting started as a contributor
How to write an article
  1. Pick something current?
  2. Use two independent sources?
  3. Read your sources before writing the story in your own words?. Do choose a unique title? before you start.
  4. Follow Wikinews' structure? for articles, answering as many of who what when where why and how? as you can; summarised in a short, two- or three-sentence opening paragraph. Once complete, your article must be three or more paragraphs.
  5. If you need help, you can add {{helpme}} to your talkpage, along with a question, or alternatively, just ask?

  • Use this tab to enter your title and get a basic article template.
[RECOMMENDED. Starts your article through the semi-automated {{develop}}—>{{review}}—>{{publish}} collaboration process.]

Welcome! Thank you for joining Wikinews; we'd love for you to stick around and get more involved. To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally.
As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems.

All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours.

Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere.

The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing.

Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

The core policies
Places to go, people to meet

Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion.

There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Hello and welcome to Wikinews.

Please note there are significant differences between Wikipedia and Wikinews. Please note key points below:

  • All our sources are placed at the foot of articles using {{source}} (please do not use <ref> syntax). See WN:CITE.
  • Wikinews articles are not works in progress. If time has passed since the article has been published, it may be appropriate to create a new article instead of significantly expanding an older article. (more info)

Please also see our welcome message and introduction. In addition, we have a welcome page specifically for wikipedians.

Please undelete[edit]

I have changed my mind and would like my user and talk pages un-deleted. Best wishes. Immunize (talk) 15:09, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Do you want me to restore all revisions or just the last version of the userpage and talkpage? If I recall correctly you requested deletion for privacy concerns. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 17:56, 26 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Only the last revision. Immunize (talk) 20:21, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Might as well do this. The last revision is tagged for deletion, btw. You may want to edit the page now. --Mikemoral♪♫ 20:30, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you. The only reason deletion was needed was the previous revisions. Immunize (talk) 20:48, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New users greeted by misspelling[edit]

The first thing that I saw when I logged in for the first time was this message

"Auto-sight has been turned off. You must now either manually sight each edit (to post-published articles) you make in main space, or leave it for someone else to sight if it is something that would not be allowed on an archived article. Enjoy! "

It'd be great if that could maybe get cleaned up. Excuse me for using your talk, but I was unsure who to contact. -Joe Hwttdz (talk) 21:04, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

(I hope alex doesn't mind me answering here). I'm not sure which typo you're referring to, as it looked ok to me, however the notice has been up there for a long time anyways, so I changed it. Bawolff 21:15, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for sorting out whatever needed sorting out Bawolff. Feel free to post here as you feel fit. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 21:42, 5 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copyvio[edit]

If you find an article to by a copyright violation, please remove all the offending text from the article when you apply the {{copyvio}} tag. We ought not continue to host the violation, even if it hasn't been published. Thanks and happy editing, --SVTCobra 02:43, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I know, I forgot. Well I remembered just as I was falling asleep but intended to nuke it myself anyway this morning, but someone already has. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 06:39, 27 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Abandoned article[edit]

Hi Alexandr, just a heads-up that I restored Wikimedia founder Jimbo Wales moves to purge pornography from Commons because there is a discussion actively ongoing] at the talk page. Maybe I'll move this to prepared stories, get it out of the newsroom. Cheers, Tempodivalse [talk] 17:46, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Fair enough. Regards --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 17:57, 14 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Regards, --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 07:41, 30 May 2010 (UTC) PS When you leave a message on a talk page, can you sign with four tildes ~~~~ or by hitting the signature button in the toolbar, so that your username and the time you leave the message show up.[reply]

Press releases & Speedy[edit]

WN:SD #6 Advertising or spam, and #11 An obvious copyright violation that is a cut-and-paste exact or near-exact duplicate of content from a copyrighted source. Speedy delete does not apply for public-domain sources, when public domain reprint permission is granted from the original source and specified in the article talk page, or to articles with a third-party edit history. Both are applicable when en.WN is spammed with a press release which is being widely distributed. YMMV, of course. - Amgine | t 02:54, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Then mark it as spam, not as press release. --Александр Дмитрий (Alexandr Dmitri) (talk) 06:43, 25 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Requests to add categories to Editprotected pages[edit]

Hi AlexandrDmitri. I am a Wikipedia and Commons editor and would like to improve the WikiNews linkage with several WikiPortals. I made a number of edit request and would much appreciate your help, as I saw you are a volonteer for such matters. --—Elekhh (talk) 21:28, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I think that I have Done them all. I'm sort of a break right now until the 3rd of September and will be without Internet access as of Saturday for an entire week, so if you don't get a speedy response from me, don't hesitate to ping someone else. Regards --Alexandr Dmitri (talk) 22:14, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks a lot! Would like to do these myself but seems to be no way right? I added a few more, in case you're still around. --—Elekhh (talk) 23:48, 15 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Done the grunt work whilst guests still sleeping. If you write some good articles for two months, there's a good chance that you could become an administrator yourself ;) --Alexandr Dmitri (talk) 08:45, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks again, nice to wake up and see all work done :). --—Elekhh (talk) 21:37, 16 August 2010 (UTC)[reply]
