Add topicTagging articles as abandoned
[edit]Hi. When tagging articles as abandoned, it should be done with a date parameter. This can most easily be achieved by using {{subst:aband}}. It will automatically resolve the current date and start the two day countdown. Cheers, SVTCobra 14:56, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
- Much appreciated, thank you! BigKrow (talk) 16:09, 26 December 2023 (UTC)

i guess working now, it was a red link so i didn't think it would work. Thanks. BigKrow (talk) 16:16, 26 December 2023 (UTC)
Yes, tagging with author request is good enough unless other editors have worked on it. It was an interesting event which I had not seen at the top of my news headlines, so I was a bit disappointed you chose this route. SVTCobra 00:43, 27 December 2023 (UTC)

Tagging for speedy deletion
[edit]Hi BigKrow, a couple of comments. First, there is no need to tag abandoned articles for speedy, even if it's been a couple of days since the countdown has run out. They already appear in a tracking category for Sysops to see as needing deletion. Second, in other cases where {{speedy}} or {{delete}} (they are the same, by the way) is appropriate, please give a valid reason. The list of valid reasons can be seen here. Thanks, SVTCobra 22:07, 4 January 2024 (UTC)
- Related is NIETians shine at Smart India Hackthon 2023 which you sought to have speedied because the user was blocked. The user was blocked because the name suggested representing National Institute of Engineering & Technology at Greater Noida. I reviewed this, but it did not pass. My review comments are firm in their wording, but I was not intending to insult you. I write here to make sure you don't take it the wrong way.
You start a lot of articles but very few are fully developed and very few get published. The topics of your articles are so varied (from global news to hyper-local news), it almost seems like you pick them at random. While the aim of Wikinews is to have broad coverage of news from all over the world, this may not be the best way to approach article creation. In my experience, the best articles are written when the author really cares about the subject and wants to tell that story. If you are not a soccer fan, you may not be the best person to write about Lazio v Roma.
So, I hope you can think on this. What really peaks your interest when you read the news? Is it politics? Science? Crime? Economics? Find something you care about and really get into it. Learn about it. Get sources; not just the latest but maybe something for background. Cheers, SVTCobra 02:39, 20 January 2024 (UTC)

Wikinewsie category
[edit]I created your wikinewsie category for you. I hope you don't mind. It's a hidden category, not visible in article space.
Feel free to edit the verbiage on the category however you like. Check out what other users have on theirs for inspiration. Just be sure to preserve the __HIDDENCAT__ line.
You can link to it from your user page and/or signature so others can see a list of articles you've gotten published. You can also link to it from off-wiki, if you have a blog, or social media page, etc for your journalism work.
I typically add the category to articles once they're published, not before. I already added it to Islamic_State_Khorasan_Province_responsible_for_more_than_60_people_killed_including_children_and_hundreds_injured_at_Krasnogorsk,_Russia_concert_at_Crocus_City_Hall.

But if it were, say, an article about the Russian presidential election, even if nothing in Asian Russia was specifically mentioned, it would make sense to put it in both; Category:Russia also goes in both. A couple of issues:
- The copyvio detector gives a 53% match. Mostly it is due to extensive quotes. I would suggest breaking up Macron's comment, which currently runs to six lines. It's simply too long to read in one breath.
- The second sentence in the second paragraph doesn't actually say anything. I suggest either removing it or expanding it.
- Some minor grammar such as the last sentence, which is missing the word "policy" before the quote marks?
- The article needs rrnaming. I suggest: "Ukraine allowed to strike Russian territory near Kharkiv with US weapons".
Otherwise looks good to go. I thought I'd point these things out here rather than putting on a negative review, so you can quickly fix them. [24Cr][talk] 09:04, 31 May 2024 (UTC)
Staleness
[edit]I just thought I'd share my thoughts on this because you seem to be very attentive to this issue. Our normal route is to wait until four days have passed without edits (or talkpage discussion) and then tag with subst:aband. Then if there are no edits for another two days, it would be deleted. I have been thinking of a proposal to reduce this from 4+2 days to 3+1 days or even 2+1 days to encourage more publishing, especially given last year we increased the window of freshness from 2-3 days to 5-7 days and reduced the minimum length to 100 words. What would you think of a shrinking of the subst:aband route? [24Cr][talk] 19:28, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- I'm for it, @Cromium BigKrow (talk) 19:29, 2 June 2024 (UTC)
- Shrinking? I would've thought, if anything, we'd lengthen it to 8+2 days, since the current window was designed for compatibility with the old freshness window. Heavy Water (talk) 20:58, 2 June 2024 (UTC)

Good try but I'm going to delete it because it is very unlikely to be populated at the moment. The article which is tagged as being in the category - well, it isn't really about Bollywood. For it to be a viable category, it would need at least three relevant articles i.e. about Bollywood in general rather than actors or movies which happen to be part of Bollywood. The only example I can find is Bollywood cricket victory in Yorkshire charity match, which involves a sports team representing the industry. [24Cr][talk] 19:35, 22 June 2024 (UTC)

How to follow newer drafts
[edit]Some people read the "recent changes" page constantly. Some others refresh "Newsroom" a few times a day.
There is an easier alternative to follow latest drafts: visit Wikinews:Water cooler/assistance, either manually once a week, or click "Subscribe" button at right top. It will Notify or Email (depending on configuration) when a new topic is added to the page. Then you can see what to edit and what are main requests for help with it, without spending too much time on the site.
Editing other drafts -- and answering questions at the water cooler linked above, which is the less time consuming version -- may help reviewers spend less time on these other drafts, and review your articles faster.
Hope it helps. Please let me know if you have any questions. Gryllida (talk) 22:47, 25 September 2024 (UTC)

subscription technical question
[edit]Hi @BigKrow :-)
I am asking for some technical information when you have a moment:
- You wrote the page Improvised explosive device attack at the Santa Maria Courthouse in Santa Maria, California injures five people, one person arrested
- When you open Talk:Improvised explosive device attack at the Santa Maria Courthouse in Santa Maria, California injures five people, one person arrested. At right top. Does it say 'Subscribe' or 'Ubsubscribe'? I.e., are you already automatically subscribed to receive notifications of new messages on the talk page or not?
There is no urgency in my new message on the talk page - just want to check how the wiki is configured on your account (I will ask several other contributors also) as this may affect communication with authors.
Thank you so much. Gryllida (talk) 23:45, 28 September 2024 (UTC)

Courthouse article
[edit]Terribly sorry that went stale. A bunch of work stuff jumped up on me and I just couldn't make it happen. Please try to gatwick that article and re-submit. Bddpaux (talk) 16:19, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Unfortunately I don't know how to Gatwick an article. @Bddpaux, thank you. BigKrow (talk) 16:20, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Well, the trick is: don't over complicate it. Think of it like this: Most big new stories have all kinds of stuff happening around them. So, we are a bit stale on the actual event itself. But: maybe there has been some courtroom stuff surrounding the guy, and you could use 70% of what is currently in this article, to build that article. See? That is the general spirit of gatwicking. This didn't make it, but there are (maybe) articles where his Mom said something or his priest said something, or the police searched his home or a storage unit. Then (considering 'inverted pyramid' style), you can put almost all of this near the bottom of THAT article. That is a 48-second intro to gatwicking.--Bddpaux (talk) 16:26, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok thank you but if an article goes stale won't it be eventually deleted? @Bddpaux BigKrow (talk) 16:28, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Well, yes. However: There is time for you to grab the text of this article, throw it into a sandbox -- then use that to build a fresh article. It takes a knack, but you can catch onto it -- I promise! And: if you gatwick this, I 100% promise that I will review that article in a timely manner.--Bddpaux (talk) 16:37, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Ok thank you but if an article goes stale won't it be eventually deleted? @Bddpaux BigKrow (talk) 16:28, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Bddpaux, I think it's dead in the water just saying we tried though thanks. BigKrow (talk) 16:26, 4 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hi BigKrow

- Sorry about the article being stale and now marked as abandoned. The main issue was a quote unverified.
- @Michael.C.Wright in the interests of publishing while article is still fresh, you can remove material which is not verifiable, I believe? Please let me know if you're okay with this. :-)
- @BigKrow
- Could you please write another story this week and leave me a message? I'm happy to help you with getting it published. Please try to find something that happened on the same day.
- Please consider joining live chat -- hang around there 24/7, don't close the chat window -- as then communication can happen more quickly and such questions can be answered way before the article becomes stale.
- Regards, Gryllida (talk) 04:33, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- If you are referring to the quote of Van de Camp, I did remove it.[1]
- I was ready to publish the article based on my pre-review of it, which was technically a formal review[2] with the results reported using {{pre-review}}. —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 15:44, 6 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Michael.C.Wright that looked good thanks.
It was five days after the event. I guess there can be some time limit, e.g. if 12 hours after a pre review nobody complained then you can publish. Gryllida (talk) 07:01, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- I assumed I would let it sit 24 hours. It went under review again less than an hour after I took it out from under my review. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ —Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Published) 16:11, 7 October 2024 (UTC)
- @Michael.C.Wright that looked good thanks.

[edit]I am looking for help with news writing:
- Please write about something that happened today. Aim for tiny report with two sources and less than 150 words.
- I will share feedback and do my best to help you with it getting published.
- Repeat the same each three days for two weeks.
Then in two weeks we can come back and think what to do next.
It is a 20-30 minutes each 3 days commitment. Are you interested? If so, please ping me or leave me a message when a story is ready for me to look at.
Regards, Gryllida (talk) 07:03, 7 October 2024 (UTC)

Coffee article
[edit]Hey!! Hope you're having a good Sunday. I tried to work with the coffee article, freshen it up, but the specifics are just getting too fluid and I may have just dug the article's grave deeper honestly. I might be able to splice the info into some Wikipedia article down the line if all else fails. I'm just not experienced enough to write something this "timely" at this point unfortunately. [edit]I worked outside in the cold and rain today. I can't write the news tonight. I'm gonna wrap myself up in blankets and watch true crime stuff on YouTube. In the beginning
[edit]For starters: Please don't take this harshly -- as it isn't meant to be such. Historically, when I start articles, they are often pell-mell slap-dash bits of who-knows-what... but I often work fairly quickly to get them orderly (to some degree). I've noticed a few things (in recent weeks). You tend to start articles with a few sentences and then just move on. Are you working some type of plan there? Also (and this is just a personal chuckle --- you are not remotely the worst of them) -- it makes me laugh when people write 39 words in an article and I see 5 sources at the bottom of the page. What's up with that? We're all just volunteers here -- so: just asking.--Bddpaux (talk) 18:17, 27 December 2024 (UTC)

Re: revitalising Wikinews
[edit]Hi, I'm reaching out to you as you indicated support for revitalising Wikinews. Here are a few ways to help out, in no particular order:
- write new articles by style guide and content guide
- find news which happened today and share it on live chat or a news tip page
- read drafts in Newsroom, especially those submitted for review, and edit them to make them more comprehensive or more current
- read drafts in Newsroom, especially those that failed review recently, and address reviewer's comments quickly and re-submit for review
- chat with new authors (of articles in Newsroom) and help them understand the key concepts
- subscribe at Wikinews:Water cooler (there are 5 subforums, open each and click 'Subscribe' link at top - then keep a close eye on your Echo notifications) to help newcomers and help with editing articles when someone requests assistance
- chat on live chat and help newcomers and reviewers with their review process
- help with software development for authoring or reviewing articles, perhaps for the mobile platforms
- chat with other contributors on audio or video chat
- present notes about how Wikinews works at various conferences via audio and video communucations [as we don't have funds for travel at present] this can be linux, programming, journalistical, or wikimedia themed conferences
- figure out how to get someone to do any of the above through a grant, sometimes google summer of code
- find high school and university educators who would like to teach their class journalism by asking them to write articles for Wikinews (was done with in the past, and we have extension installed for marking students)
- collaborate with Pharos on getting more news coverage of the New York City and adjacent areas
- proofread, or read, Wikinews articles out loud for Audio Wikinews
- make English Wikinews accounts on various social media like twitter, facebook, blue sky app (sp?), others [in consultation with someone on-wiki first] ensuring you're posting new news articles there with appropriate tags, moderate comments, and setup multiple moderators if possible and document which contributor is in charge of which social network account for Wikinews and how articles are being posted there
Please let me know which of these points you're most comfortable with, and/or would like to learn.
Which points would you like to contribute? Please name up to 3-5 points, if you like. Or suggest your own. :-)
I'm happy to connect with you and guide you in any of the above areas.

If I stop writing, it's probably because I died in a work-related accident to no fault of my own
[edit]I just got a new lawn care job but there are has been like zero regard for the safety of the crew, myself, and others on the road. I'm the only one who wears their seatbeats. I raised concern that wheelbarrows were not getting strapped down properly, and they might fly out of the trailer going 70mph on the interstate and kill someone, and I got ignored. The foreman texts and drives. I'm borderline about to blow my top. I was 7 minutes late this morning and the owner was like "dude wtf you're late" and I just wanted to be like "oh my fucking god dude." Sorry for the "shock image" over at the talk page for the horse article. It's not the end of the world if something goes stale
[edit]They said something like "don't get married to your article" when I first started here. I like having lots of little projects I can chip away at throughout the day. That's how I like to work. Also, if I bring the stories to the site, alot of the time other users pick them up and run with them. Pretty sure I had very little to do with the last few stories that were published. I just brought the links, I guess. I literally woke up this morning and was delighted to see that two more stories got published. Sometimes starting a stub article is what prompts someone to take a story and run with it. I'm just planting seeds here. This is what revitalizing Wikinews looks like to me. Like I said before, anything that goes stale or gets abandoned can probably get used for Wikipedia, Simple Wikipedia or Wikiquote. Lofi Gurl (talk) 00:33, 14 April 2025 (UTC)

[edit]I got ahead of myself last week. Nobody is around to review stuff. I thought that by creating a bunch of stub articles, I would incentivize collaboration and get a community going. About noise from other users
[edit]Hello BigKrow,
When someone is being a fool, unlike Wikipedia, at Wikinews there is no response needed. There is no 'assume good faith' policy. Instead, there is 'never assume'. If someone did one stupid edit, it is seen as stupid, there is no 'maybe this was a good faith edit by a confused newcomer' and a polite conversation. This isn't necessary.
It is also not necessary to approach the user and ask 'hey why did you do this?'.
The motivation for this is that waste of time is not constructive to a journalistic site. Distractions are ignored as much as possible.
Think this may spare you some time and effort. Seeing that there are a few more new users recently and alas not all of them are constructive.
I will of course continue to actively clean up and try to reduce vandalism as much as possible. (This process is necessary at either wiki.)
Hope it helps. Gryllida (talk) 00:57, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
- Understood, @Gryllida BigKrow (talk) 01:03, 23 April 2025 (UTC)
Nothing useful
[edit]Hi, Bigkrow, just looking for friends in wikis you know, having friends you can chart with if you have a problem, any thing or something. Anyway nothing useful and just use {{CURRENTDAYNAME}} {{CURRENTDAY}} {{CURRENTMONTHNAME}} {{CURRENTYEAR}}; {{CURRENTTIME}} UTC, don't worry bout the links just copy the trick. You know I'm crazy, telling someone with 1 year of experience Vs me with 23 days of experience. Anyway let's be friends. Oh I almost forgot, a three year old boy was found in a dam after despairing for four days, 3 police officers were found in a dam after they despaired in a gas station along with their car, I don't know why I'm telling you, but I'm telling you. Paste
[edit]Hi BigKrow
In the article there was a published paste from source,
> Flight and maintenance crews determined it was safe to continue the approximately two-hour flight to Portland.
This is terrible as it is illegal, and other users who will edit the page will not even know.
May I suggest to
1. Paste in seoarate paragraph only, not add to existing paragraph
2. Mark pasted content:
- in visual editor: mark it in italic
- in source editor: add a ">" before, or enclose in single quotation marks twice to indicate it was pasted, or write "Pasted: " before it
like this
Importantly, I believe saving a pasted text which is not freely licensed is illegal (copyright violation), and may result in legal action being taken against you, by the original author. This includes copyrighted text in page history, as the prior revisions are also under the same licence as Wikinews itself. So I would suggest leaving the article open in edit mode until you have written it in your own words and deleted the quote.
So I would envision you coming up with a content like this:
Pasted: Flight and maintenance crews determined it was safe to continue the approximately two-hour flight to Portland.
The airline staff assessed the situation during takeoff, and considered it safe to proceed with the two-hour flight.
(Then the "pasted" paragraph can be deleted, and the edit can be saved.)
I wrote this page for news draft writing, which is saved to localStorage in your browser. Alas, it does not allow you to save on-wiki yet; you would need to transfer the content over manually.
https://gryllida.neocities.org/news/writer/v2/
The load and save buttons load from localStorage and save to localStorage, they do not save to wiki.
Please let me know if this is helpful.
Thanks, Gryllida (talk) 22:18, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- Sorry to inform you but I wrote the article in my own words. @Gryllida BigKrow (talk) 22:38, 19 May 2025 (UTC)
- How come the diff included a copy paste, then? Gryllida (talk) 10:57, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- I don't know you can delete it if you think that's best. @Gryllida BigKrow (talk) 11:19, 20 May 2025 (UTC)
- I am proposing that in the future you know better. When pasting, always put it in quotation marks or otherwise mark it. It is dangerous to publish pasted material as this may cause the external source to file a lawsuit against you (not against WMF). It shouldn't be only reviewer's job to clean up copyright violations. It's yours. Gryllida (talk) 20:30, 20 May 2025 (UTC)

This is Neeraj. I’ve submitted a biographical article on Indian football coach Ravi Kumar Punia for review on English Wikinews.
The article is fully sourced from reputable outlets (AIFF, Khel Now, Sportskeeda, I-League.org, Sportstar) and includes a Wikimedia Commons image. It’s neutral, factual, and follows Wikinews style guidelines.
You have put it on delete can you please help in correcting it it will be very helpful Here’s the link to the article: https://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Ravi_Kumar_Punia:_From_national_footballer_to_one_of_India%E2%80%99s_rising_coaches_in_women%E2%80%99s_football
Thanks in advance! Neeraj7sharma (talk) 17:15, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
Why
[edit]Hello,
This article summarizes recent and ongoing coaching achievements of Ravi Kumar Punia, including: – Appointment as head coach of Uttar Pradesh in 2025 – 2024 Senior Women's NFC bronze medal (May) – February 2024 interviews in Khel Now and Sportskeeda
These events are within the past few months and reflect an ongoing public coaching career. The article includes timely sources and is part of documenting the evolution of women’s football in India.
Kindly reconsider deletion. Happy to revise formatting or update language to meet style guidelines.
Thank you, Neeraj Neeraj7sharma (talk) 17:18, 7 July 2025 (UTC)
Hello from Gryllida
[edit]Hi @BigKrow
From time to time several weeks ago your submissions were not completed, have style and formatting and grammar issues; and yet were being submitted for review. This does not appear to happen recently. Was there a reason for this? How did you resolve this?
Regards, - Gryllida 21:07, 8 July 2025 (UTC)
- @Gryllida what do you exactly mean by this? BigKrow (talk) 22:40, 8 July 2025 (UTC)

Live chat software trial (August-September 2025)
[edit]Live chat software trial (August-September 2025)
Hi, i am running a software to make live chat easier to use. It requires installation of QuasselDroid on Android, Quassel Client on Windows or Mac or Linux, and I don't know what on iOS (let me know if this is your main platform). The software would connect you to the official IRC channel for Wikinews and stay connected including all chat history, including when you closed the app. I am achieving this by hosting it on my Quassel Core on my server. If you are interested in trying this option, please install the Quassel Client software, and after this is done (not before), ensure you have a working email in your Special:Preferences so i can email you login credentials, and specify your desired IRC nickname. Thanks. Gryllida 21:59, 7 August 2025 (UTC)
- Hi, please install the Quassel Client, it is free/open source, low bandwidth, low RAM and CPU usage
- and tell me your desired nickname
- I would greatly appreciated if you could use it for a few weeks and then leave me some feedback. This chat platform has 3 reviewers on it, and could make collaboration much easier. Thanks Gryllida 20:01, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
Are you OK?

- I am just full of kinks and gears meaning I'm all over the place sorry gry @Gryllida BigKrow (talk) 19:43, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
- Is there a way i can help you with this? May i re-iterate that the above live chat software is in plain text only and does not give away your photo or mobile number nor it tracking you? This is like Echo, but better, because replying to messages is easier and more visible. Regards, -- Gryllida 19:58, 10 August 2025 (UTC)
Hello,
- would be good to add a map or a photo of the highway and to make paragraph structure more clear not one sentence per paragraph. these changes may be made within next 24 hours. thanks

- Are you able to revise please based on the feedback, immediately, and finish the revision within less than 12 hours after it was published?

- Hello,
- Requested further revision:
- 1. Date is not specified in first paragraph. This was noted by a reviewer previously.
- 2. Sources are listed without dates.
- Please note that this diff does not resolve the issue with date request in first paragraph. :-(
- Please fix these issues and re-submit.
- Thank you. Gryllida 14:34, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

- Hello,
- Published with request to revise:
- 1. "Pakistan-administered" Kashmir or "India-controlled" (depends on which source you read) Kashmir was affected, but is not mentioned in the report.
- 2. Last paragraph was probably AI generated and needs some revision to reduce bias and make it more factual.
- Please revise within next 12 hours, to allow time for a reviewer to approve your edit.
- Please advise if you're not planning to be available, then someone else can volunteer to do the edits.
- Many thanks. Gryllida 14:31, 20 August 2025 (UTC)

- You can use the following code at the top of your talk page and it will automatically archive conversations after they have been inactive for 30 days:
{{User:MiszaBot/config |archive = User talk:BigKrow/Archive %(counter)d |algo = old(30d) |counter = 1 |maxarchivesize = 192K |minthreadstoarchive = 1 |minthreadsleft = 0 |archiveheader = {{talkarchivenav}} }}
- You'll have to manually create links to the archive pages if you want to provide those. The first archive it creates will be [[User talk:BigKrow/Archive_1]].Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 18:57, 2 September 2025 (UTC)

[edit]Sometimes I am able to take the content/sources from articles on here that go stale or otherwise don't get published, and use them to expand Wikipedia articles. You should not be reverting people adding categories to their userpage. It is clearly a legitimate account and your behaviour is going to have you end up blocked. --Ferien (talk) 23:37, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

- Why you have to be so strict? @Ferien BigKrow (talk) 23:39, 1 October 2025 (UTC)
- Because Krinkle communicated the issue clearly and politely to you and you didn't get it the first time. If you took one look at the userpage you would have known it is for testing. It took a message from him, two reverts and a stricter message from me to get you to stop. If anyone else had vandalised userpages they would usually be blocked straight away. If you had even looked at the user page, this wouldn't have been any issue at all. As a long-term community member you should know that once multiple warnings are given that's when you start to move onto blocks. --Ferien (talk) 23:44, 1 October 2025 (UTC)

Hi BigKrow
[edit]I am trying to understand why so many articles are deleted as stale. I made the page Wikinews:ReviewLog and looked at one. The issue was you revised article and I didn't see the notification about that. (I was busy moving house. Logging in to wiki was not suitable, but I would still check my messages on phone.) Apparently, one way to possibly solve this is to help you chase me if I went away. Can you please provide me your Telegram or Discord or Linphone or Matrix username, either here on wiki or via Special:EmailUser, I would like to connect. Then you can ping me at one of these platforms to attract my attension and avoid delays. I hope this is OK with you. Thanks Gryllida 20:15, 9 October 2025 (UTC)

On a related point, BigKrow, please do just be careful about the use of multiple accounts. Appears you've had a half dozen or so just in the past few months. Advice
[edit]How about helping with rewriting articles and helping them be published, not marking them as stale? The article was edited recently, how come you mark it as abandoned? Before that you marked article about a recent event, that was written the next day after it occured, as stale. Why? Are you sure you are right? BilboBeggins (talk) 21:51, 1 November 2025 (UTC)

- "I have been on wikinews long enough it is stale been." I am not sure whether you are trying to say that article was long enough or you have been on Wikinews long enough.
- I ask you to refrain from editing the articles that I created if you don't know what you are doing, please.
- You marked article about propagandist Markov as stale, though it wasn't. Now you are marking article that I am saying is not abandoned as abandoned. BilboBeggins (talk) 22:15, 1 November 2025 (UTC)
- @BilboBeggins, dont tell me what to do. BigKrow (talk) 00:12, 2 November 2025 (UTC)

- Hey, friends -- we all have our moments! To be fair, "Stale" is often used as a tool for "Nothing is happening here. We need to get rid of this." -- it isn't meant to be offensive. In the near term: I will try to (at leas) prompt the contributor with a quick message first -- to (potentially) prompt gatwicking (or whatever). I hope this adds some clarity. And: We're all just trying to flow along here!😁--Bddpaux (talk) 16:35, 3 November 2025 (UTC)
- I already gatwicked it several times, so I know about the option. BilboBeggins (talk) 20:38, 3 November 2025 (UTC)

The project is dying
[edit]I shouldnt have called the project a joke. I was frusterated. That was like my eighth or ninth article in a row that went stale because nobody wanted to review it, or wasnt able to. I'm not writing anymore. I get that the process isn't perfect, but this is fucking ridiculous. The fact that the project has barely gotten anything published in light of that WMF discussion just shows me that this is a lost cause. Lofi Gurl (talk) 14:17, 4 December 2025 (UTC)
- I can understand you, submitting an article on current enwn can be really frustrating… Many times I’ve also felt similarly impulsive thoughts. and Compared with other sister projects, the English version of Wikinews is relatively weak. Especially under such external pressures, it’s normal for ordinary volunteers to feel frustrated. But truly appreciate you and everyone’s contributions; we need to stay united. ~ Sheminghui.WU (talk) 10:11, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Writing more is not an effective solution, Lofi Gurl. There were 10 drafts needing attention and now there are 16, for example. Need two users in IRC simultaneously one flagging issues and one fixing them. How the hell to make that happen, I have no idea, I am open to ideas. I am mentally ready to pay a fortune to the first person to organise this irc session with a reviewer successfully ensuring both the person and the reviewer stayed glued to keyboard for its entire duration. Gryllida 12:34, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- Having a wiki page with availabilities advertised including count downs could help.
- Like this
- {{Countdown|Australia/Sydney|Tuesday|6pm...}}
- Or something. Gryllida 12:36, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- I'm going to focus on revising other people's drafts I guess when I get on here. Lofi Gurl (talk) 14:15, 6 December 2025 (UTC)
- This is a reply to no one in particular, just to the topic in general.
- The WMF has announced no decision and taken no action yet. The state of en.WN is the result of what contributors here have chosen to do or not to do. We all have the choice to continue volunteering our time as we see fit, or to walk away. The project is impacted either way.
- For the first time since June we had three reviewers who published articles in November. We also published more articles than our monthly average in 2024 and had fewer days with 0 articles published than our monthly average in 2024. This reverses a five month down-trend, by just adding one more publishing reviewer.
- I believe if we could show to the WMF that with more active reviewers performing full and complete reviews, we can generate more interest in the project and begin the slow process of improving our policies and guidelines (which I believe are demonstrably counter-productive).Michael.C.Wright (Talk/Reviewer) 14:17, 6 December 2025 (UTC)

Regarding the article now titled Nick Reiner charged with murder of parents' deaths, I believe this title is ungrammatical again. One could say "Nick Reiner charged with murder in parents' deaths", or "Nick Reiner charged with murder for parents' deaths", or "Nick Reiner charged with murder of parents", but not the current version, which implies that he is accused of killing his parents' deaths. I already changed this title once previously (because "debited" is only a synonym of "charged" when talking about money or accounting, not when talking about crime), so I'm not going to change it again right now, but the current title is unsatisfactory. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 09:44, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

As I write this, it has not even been 7 days since the shooting occurred. --Metropolitan90 (talk) 22:09, 20 December 2025 (UTC)

Revision requested: Kennedy Center gets renamed to Trump-Kennedy Center (December 24)
[edit]Hello,
Re: Kennedy Center gets renamed to Trump-Kennedy Center
1. Date and 'who renamed it' are missing in first paragraph. WN:IP
2. Text includes some analysis words such as "lots of", "many", "extremely likely", "most people". This should be replaced with something more precise, or attributed. WN:Attribution
3. External links should be moved from article body to the sources section.
4. {{image source}} should be specified in the image caption.
Please fix these issues and re-submit. Thanks. -- Gryllida 20:06, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
Published: House fire triggers explosion in Salisbury, North Carolina (December 24)
[edit]Hello,
This message is being sent to you as you contributed to the article at some point.
For your reference, as a part of my review, the article required several minor edits. Some of these changes may be related to your edits, while others may be related to edits made by other users. The list of minor edits is provided below.
1) The more recent/current information about health and return to work of firefighters was brought upwards to second paragraph inverted pyramid
2) That sentence was edited for past tense.
3) Fresh source was listed at top of the list.
4) Request was made off-wiki to add a verb to the headline. This worked amazingly well.
5) A paragraph was reworded as it was too close to plagiarising a source.
6) Acronyms were removed as they were not used throughout the rest of the page.
Please keep these in mind when writing or revising articles in future. And, thank you for creating and revising this article, it is interesting that there was additional explosion; I hope there will be an update when the cause will be identified.
Have a great day. -- Gryllida 20:27, 23 December 2025 (UTC)
