defence and defense[edit]

hi, thanks for ur contribs to Emergency declared in Peru as Mt. Ubinas threatens to erupt and Russian commander: Tu-160s penetrate US airspace undetected. i just want to point out that "defence" is just the british way to spell "defense" and is not an spelling error. here at wikinews, we follow the convention (from style guide)

Quote

Spelling is an issue which often becomes contentious since there are multiple contradictory standards available, for example, American and British English. On Wikinews there is no specific policy other than to use a consistent spelling pattern throughout an article. Follow the spelling patterns of the subject of the article or that of the first author of the article to avoid issues.

Hi!It's techincally referred to as Commonwealth English and all British Commonwealth countries use it.Hence the majority of readers are likely to be accustomed to this form of English. It's just a part of the Commonwealth culture-like driving on the left side of the road or playing cricket! But,really I don't think it's a big deal.Oh and do you think we should replace the Mt.Ubinas article with something else?Maybe the Egypt bombings?PVJ 11:24, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Doh! Time to break out the British English dictionary in MS Word! Sorry for the error, I didn't notice it until I was working on the transcript and thought it was a spelling error. If it had been "armour" or "catalogue" I think I would have been OK. I'll be more aware of it in the future. dzcowart 14:09, 26 April 2006 (UTC)[reply]
