To help you get started we have an essay that will guide you through the process of writing your first full article. There are many other things you can do on the project, but its lifeblood is new, current, stories written neutrally. As you get more involved, you will need to look into key project policies and other discussions you can participate in; so, keep this message on this page and refer to the other links in it when you want to learn more, or have any problems. All Wikimedia projects have rules. Here are ours. Listed here are the official policies of the project, you may be referred to some of them if your early attempts at writing articles don't follow them. Don't let this discourage you, we all had to start somewhere. The rules and guides laid out here are intended to keep content to high standards and meet certain rules the Wikimedia Foundation applies to all projects. It may seem like a lot to read, but you do not have to go through it all in one sitting, or know them all before you can start contributing. Remember, you should enjoy contributing to the project. If you're really stuck come chat with the regulars. There's usually someone in chat who will be happy to help, but they may not respond instantly.

Places to go, people to meet Wiki projects work because a sense of community forms around the project. Although writing news is far more individualistic than contributing to Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia, people often need minor help with things like spelling and copyediting. If a story isn't too old you might be able to expand it, or if it is disputed you may be able to find some more sources and rescue it before it is listed for deletion. There are always discussions going on about how the site could be improved, and your input is of value. Check the links here to see where you can give input to the running of the Wikinews project.

Write your first article for Wikinews! Use the following box to help you create your first article. Simply type in a title to your story and press "Create page". Then start typing text to your story into the new box that will come up. When you're done, press "save page". That's all there is to it! It is recommended you read the article guide before starting. Also make sure to check the list of recently created articles to see if your story hasn't already been reported upon.

Your British actress news

Let's make this very clear.

1. As per the freshness policy; the whole writing-reviewing process should finish within 3 calendar days. The video link in the source says that it was uploaded on January 15. And I remember, that time, review queue was empty. You can't say that it was not long enough...It has been ten days.End of discussion
2. As per your summary it is not an advertisement as the actress is already famous. Like seriously? We were saying that the article advertises that book.
   1. Moreover, famous-British-actress doesn't have a name? Famous enough?
   2. And doesn't famous people do advertisements?
3. There is copyright infringement. The video is from facebook and the image is from Amazon.com.
4. Style guide is not followed and article does not have minimal length

Copyright infringement

Even if there is no explicit copyright message on a page, you cannot cut and paste from it. Thus, your submission - which contains verbatim text from a 3rd party site - is a copyright infringement; even if such is unintentional, or unwitting.

In any case, the story is not recent enough to qualify as news. It is also written as an editorial piece (or, advertorial, if you are familiar with the term). Neither are accepted for publication on Wikinews. If you are responsible for, or have a close association, with any of the sites or publications mentioned then you may not have committed copyright infringement. However, that would mean you have a serious conflict of interest which you should have clearly stated on the article's discussion page. --Brian McNeil / ^talk 19:42, 25 January 2016 (UTC)

Isn't the story recent enough? It happened not too long ago. And is an advertorial because I am speaking about an actress? I don't see why it would be considered advertising if an actress does not really need advertising if she's already famous. It just doesn't make any sense to me. Please review the article and make corrections if possible - Elena Mars

• Criteria for stale/freshness are covered in the guidelines on newsworthiness
• The format/layout for an article suitable for submission for review are covered in this essay. It summarises a significant amount of detail found in the Style guide.
• Copyright violation is viewed extremely seriously on-project, as is the possibility of an undeclared conflict of interest.

If you continue to simply revert changes which follow policy, and make no effort to have your submission conform to project policy (detailed in the links provided by the above Welcome message), such may be construed as disruption and result in a block.
