Welcome[edit]
Irate, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Style guide - how articles should look before publishing
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- Audio Wikinews could always use more contributors
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Cspurrier 01:54, 2 August 2005 (UTC)
Do you by any chance listen to IRATE radio? Bawolff ☺☻ 01:17, 13 December 2005 (UTC)
Hi Irate... I noticed that you added the {{npov}} tag to this article. That's quite alright, I just wanted to let you know that you should add a comment to the talk page explaining why the tag is there. This is so people know what they need to do to fix it up. - Borofkin 08:32, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Re:Liverpool Cabal blog[edit]
Hello. When you moved an article on the Liverpool cabal blog to "Blogger.com made website called Liverpool Evil Cabal," did you really mean that Blogger.com was involved in the creation of the website?
After reading the sources cited and some part of the blog, I found no ground to support the statement, so I assumed it was just a confusing title or you misunderstood the company's role in this.
The page is now moved to another title, and the "Blogger.com made..." page is now listed for Deletion. There is also a request for a review on the change in page title Wikinews:Water cooler/policy#request for review.
In case you find my judgment wrong, or have other comments or opinions, I thought I should let you know. Tomos 13:08, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- I created it as Liverpool Evil Cabal.--Irate 15:16, 11 August 2006 (UTC) It was FellowWikiNews who renamed it.--Irate 15:18, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Hello. Thank you for pointing that out. I did not realize the earlier renaming. So am I correct in assuming that you just had the problem with "anti-Liverpool" in title, rather than having some reason to believe that Blogger.com created the web site? Tomos 17:04, 11 August 2006 (UTC)
- Yes it was just the Anti Liverpool.--Irate 17:06, 11 August 2006 (UTC)

liverpool cabal article[edit]
i've listed ur reverts on this article for review at Wikinews:Admin action alerts#User:Irate. please don't revert the article until all concerns over it are addressed, be aware that reverting an article more than 3 times in a day breaks the 3 revert rule. the additional source that u have added does not appear to substantiate the unsourced content in the article. u can discuss this on the article talk page. i hope u've taken another look at Wikinews:Etiquette, since the last time we interacted. template categories[edit]
Thank you for categorizing template. However when you do that, please use [[Category:Wikinewqs templates|template name]]
, This way its fileed under the page name (template:Breaking would be B) as opposed to the first letter of the namespace (template:Breaking would be t). Thanks. Bawolff ☺☻ 23:03, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
- Ok will do.--Irate 23:07, 24 February 2007 (UTC)
Sports v Sport[edit]
Thanks for mentioning that, i didnt notice that when i make a match report (using the article generator) that the category is spelt wrong. I'm not actually putting it in incorrectly, but ill make sure I change it on future reports, thank you.Dark Squall 22:05, 11 March 2007 (UTC)
1. Why didn't you add sources to back up the information in the article? 2. We had to oversight one of your edits, which contained a personal address. Please justify why you made that edit. —FellowWiki Newsie 19:20, 11 October 2007 (UTC)
- Which edit? I accidentaly inserted an eddress which was totally irrelavant into the talk page. I removed it not you. I'll have to getthe docs from my lawyers as I am not an acredited member of the press I cannot take notes even at my own trial.--Irate 19:32, 11 October 2007 (UTC)

Steve Sinnott article[edit]
First off, we really appreciate your contribution.
But sometimes users submit an article from somewhere else, not realizing that Wikinews cannot keep copy-and-paste versions of articles which are published elsewhere under a restrictive copyright. An article created in this way is a copyright violation, and Wikinews policy is to erase these even if they are excellent article ideas.
Another problem which sometimes comes up is press releases: Press releases are sometimes excellent sources, but they do not qualify as unbiased news articles so they can't be published as they are. Two key things to remember about press releases is that they're usually written to represent the viewpoint of an involved party (Thus likely running foul of our Neutral Point of View policy). And second, they are generally covered by copyright which can conflict with our open editing approach.
A better way to get an article on an exciting subject published here is to write an original article following the guidelines described in writing an article, or to write a brief explanation of the subject and include the url address of articles or websites to use as sources. If you are part of the story that the article is about, you may also wish to consider requesting an interview rather than writing the article yourself.
Thanks again!–Doldrums(talk) 15:24, 5 April 2008 (UTC)
Snow Article[edit]
I've edited and added to your snow article, do you want to make any final changes to http://en.wikinews.org/wiki/Heaviest_snowfalls_in_thirty_years_fall_upon_the_UK and then flag it for review by switching the {{Develop}} tag to {{Review}}? Thanks, --JulesMattsson (talk) 17:52, 10 January 2010 (UTC)

Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Irate. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Irate~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
