Iran Story[edit]

Hello!

First off let me comment that there is no conspiracy to try and suppress your input to the Wikinews project. My own comments on the Iran executions story were purely related to what age someone qualifies for the label "youth". I would be delighted to try and help you get good stories up, but you might want to start with something smaller until you gain experience. One or two paragraphs can quickly be fixed to match our guidelines, but anything longer could be so difficult to fix to Wikinews standards that it becomes irrelevant.

I believe you'll find the same with other editors, we don't want to discourage you, but we have what might seem like an odd set of standards. Brian McNeil / talk 21:41, 18 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Hi Deprifry

The article I composed I used the text from the sources I listed and drew my own conclusions with heavy usage of text from www.ncr-iran.org

But If you look at the Copy Right link on that site it says that the content is free use by anyone if not abused except usage against the purpose of the article. I copy paste the Copy right notice from that website:

NCRI (C) Copyright and Terms of Use

Users may download, post, broadcast, transmit, and print content from this website for promoting ideas and issues discussed by the National Council of Resistance of Iran (NCRI) in a way that does not infringe the rights of, restrict or inhibit anyone else's use and enjoyment of the content.

Prohibited behavior includes harassing or causing distress or inconvenience to any person or organization supporting the National Council of Resistance of Iran in its task to establish freedom and democracy nurtured by secular government in Iran.

You can check that out in link: http://ncr-iran.org/?option=com_content&task=view&id=539

plaese release the article for viewing

Sincerely Jalal

Unfortuantely, those terms are incompatible with the free spirit of Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License, not to mention our NPOV policy, because they essentially oblige us, and every reuser of our content, to promote the view of the NCRI. --Deprifry|+T+ 10:22, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I do not read those legal terms as you say, "they essentially oblige us, and every reuser of our content, to promote the view of the NCRI." they are saying; "Prohibited behavior includes harassing or causing distress or inconvenience"

I guess material used to harass and causing distress to other people should not be interpreted as promoting the views of the NCRI.

I request you discuss this with your legal experts and let me know. I would like to take this issue up to a more responsible person in charge of WikieNews. With all respect, I believe you are not being neutral.

I have repeatedly communicated to NCRI website asking for their permission to use their content and photos. They are very open and willing to share their information. To remind you, the information this group released on August 2002 for the first time ended up revealing Iran's secret nuclear plots to develop a bomb now the mainstream news. That information lead to extensive investigation by IAEA and United Nation Security Council. So what these people say is to be taken seriously. It is very shallow to think it is their biased opinion. They are claiming openly that they are the main opposition to a religious dictatorship and reveal conspiracies a dictatorship imposing on the civilized world.

I would like to remind you of your great responsibility to act as an editor to help free people develop stories and have their say in a free media such as WikieNews not a person creating obstacles.

The Creative Commons Attribution 2.5 License is a free content license. It mandates that its content can be used by anyone for any purpose. The restrictions imposed by the NCRI, how honorable they may seem, are inherently incompatible with this license. Mahmoud Ahmadinejad can use a Wikinews article in his latest book if he wants to, regardless whether we like it or not. --Deprifry|+T+ 13:18, 19 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

French court removes all restrictions placed on Iranian opposition leader Mrs. Maryam Rajavi and other members of Mujahedeen-e-Khalq - MeK[edit]

First off, we really appreciate your contribution.

But sometimes users submit an article from somewhere else, not realizing that Wikinews cannot keep copy-and-paste versions of articles which are published elsewhere under a restrictive copyright. An article created in this way is a copyright violation, and Wikinews policy is to erase these even if they are excellent article ideas.

Another problem which sometimes comes up is press releases. Press releases are sometimes excellent sources, but they do not qualify as unbiased news articles so they can't be published as they are. Two key things to remember about press releases is that they're usually written to represent the viewpoint of an involved party (Thus likely running foul of our Neutral Point of View policy). And second, they are generally covered by copyright which can conflict with our open editing approach.

A better way to get an article on an exciting subject published here is to write an original article following the guidelines described in writing an article, or to write a brief explanation of the subject and include the url address of articles or websites to use as sources.

Thanks again! --Deprifry|+T+ 10:06, 17 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]
