Welcome[edit]

Matt von Furrie, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!

Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:

There are always things to do on Wikinews:

By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! BTW, we normally leave stories on the developing stories page for a few hours before moving it to the days page. --Cspurrier 01:54, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

hello[edit]

Thanks for the collision story! It just needed a few more things - a source and a date, and the dateline being removed (as we don't use them unless it's original reporting). Don't be reluctant to follow all the steps in Wikinews:Writing an article and publish stories yourself! Dan100 (Talk) 10:05, 12 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Audio Wikinews Host[edit]

Currently, we need a News Briefs host. The process or going about doing this is to write a script based on this template. You would select the "edit" button at the top of that page and copy all of the text into Wikinews:Audio Wikinews/Transcripts/June 10, 2005/News Brief 1800 UTC, replace the 1800 with the current time in UTC, 02:07, and replace where is says "summaries" with two or three paragraphs of the top articles. Next, you would record yourself speaking it with a program like Audacity, encoded in into .OGG format, upload it, and add a link to it here. Good luck! If you have any questions, feel free leave a note at my talk page. NGerda 16:41, Jun 12, 2005 (UTC)

Daily newscasts[edit]

Your idea tails very nicely with what we have a request for from a webcaster or three. They would like a daily-updated 5 minute "top of the hour" type of news cast. We've started working on this in a couple of different ways, including building a set of "News briefs" type paragraphs for each of our published news articles. You can find these via News briefs or checking each day's category - such as Category:June 28, 2005.

There is a project going at Wikinews:Audio Wikinews which has been getting some things recorded and available online. I'd love for you to join in! Where would you like to start? - Amgine/talk 29 June 2005 06:56 (UTC)
