Welcome[edit]
Rankun~enwikinews, welcome to Wikinews! I hope you like the place and decide to stay. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
Our key policies - if you read anything, read these!
- Wikinews:Neutral point of view - tell every side to a story in a fair and balanced way
- Wikinews:Cite sources - everything in a Wikinews article must be sourced
Here a few pointers to help you get to know Wikinews:
- Wikinews:Introduction - overview of the site
- Wikinews:Writing an article - how to write and publish a complete article
- Wikinews:Content guide - what's suitable for Wikinews
- Wikinews:Contents - the contents page.
There are always things to do on Wikinews:
- Existing articles need expanding and checking for spelling and mistakes
- The front page lead articles often need updating
- Developing stories need finishing and publishing
- Discussions need your input
- If you're interested in audio recordings, Audio Wikinews could always use more contributers
- And of course, stories need writing!
By the way, you can sign your name on Talk pages using four tildes (~~~~), which produces your name and the current date. If you have any questions, you can ask them at the water cooler or to anyone on the Welcommittee, or ask me on my Talk page. Again, welcome! --Brian McNeil / talk 21:06, 27 February 2007 (UTC)
Barack Obama[edit]
I got you started with the Barack Obama article. I renamed it to Barack Obama raises $25M for presidential campaign, as it was no longer a preparation, added an image, and a source; but it will need to be expanded just a bit more before being published. Happy editing :) —Zachary talk 17:28, 4 April 2007 (UTC)
Your pictures?[edit]
Sir, I took these pictures with my own camera. I would not steal anyone else's photos, I believe you're mistaken. Heck, I have an SD card full of these photos. --TUFKAAP - (talk) 10:07, 18 March 2008 (UTC)
Ummm.. the EXIF data on my photos clearly states it's a Samsung Techwin camera:
Camera manufacturer Samsung Techwin Camera model <Digimax S500 / Kenox S500 / Digimax Cyber 530>

Why didn't you just tell me[edit]
Why didn't you just tell me that I ended up with the Corrospondent credit by mistake, instead you went on this on long-winded vauge explanation that made it sound like I stole your photos. Blah, try and clarify next time so we don't have to go through a pointless arguement. ;) :) --TUFKAAP - (talk) 03:15, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Scientology article[edit]
Hi there Rankun,
Thanks for your contributions to Scientology protest group celebrates founder's birthday worldwide. You may or may not be aware that the majority of contributions made after 48 hours of publication will be reverted as Wikinews wants to show the news as it has happened at the time, to allow it to build an archive showing peoples knowledge of the event at the time. Unfortunately, you added to Scientology protest group celebrates founder's birthday worldwide over 48 hours after the articles creation, so those edits have now been reverted. For more information on this policy please ask me at my talk page.
Thanks,
Anonymous101. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Anonymous101 (talk • contribs) 08:22, 22 March 2008 (UTC)
Your account will be renamed[edit]
Hello,
The developer team at Wikimedia is making some changes to how accounts work, as part of our on-going efforts to provide new and better tools for our users like cross-wiki notifications. These changes will mean you have the same account name everywhere. This will let us give you new features that will help you edit and discuss better, and allow more flexible user permissions for tools. One of the side-effects of this is that user accounts will now have to be unique across all 900 Wikimedia wikis. See the announcement for more information.
Unfortunately, your account clashes with another account also called Rankun. To make sure that both of you can use all Wikimedia projects in future, we have reserved the name Rankun~enwikinews that only you will have. If you like it, you don't have to do anything. If you do not like it, you can pick out a different name.
Your account will still work as before, and you will be credited for all your edits made so far, but you will have to use the new account name when you log in.
Sorry for the inconvenience.
Yours,
Keegan Peterzell
