Wikinews:2026 streak competition

From Wikinews, the free news source you can write!

Objective

 • to encourage a user to author and publish, or reviewer to review and publish
 • do this without burning out and with motivation and habit to resume work after having burned out once or multiple times

Ad flyer (share this with others interested users)

It is being proposed to setup :w:streak goals over a 12-week period: for example,

* "write one story each two weeks, and babysit it until it is published"

This could be either authoring a completely new article or taking over someone else's article and doing focused editing on it with active collaboration with others until it is published. It is like a day shift as you are expected to remain available 'on call' to address concerns from another user or reviewer.

The aim of this is to build a habit of participation with outbursts of eyeballing the page to collaborate with others -- but not every day, to have breaks and reduce burnout. Could you please check out this section and let me know what you think? Parameters are subject to discussion e.g.

* once every 'two weeks' or 'week' or 'month'
* should this be same for all or each person decides for themselves
* how long total comp running for, 12 weeks or 24 or some other time
* some other ideas how to modify this

I would appreciate it if you could reply by the end of this week, it would be helpful.

Please note if you are interested you may signup at the bottom of Wikinews:2026 streak competition and you will be notified at your talk page if there are any updates or progress of this idea.

Thanks a lot!

Proposal

Points would be accumulated for working in some way (depends on contributor role on project) on at least one story every two weeks. Like a w:streak. It is proposed that 'once each two weeks' is a reasonable period for putting concentrated effort into working on a story with full attention and then having a break before starting the same effort on a next story.

Before participating select your role, and your points would be accumulated for that role. Points are only counted if the article was published.

Result

At end of a competition period, suggest for 6 months (12 fortnights), the no. of maximum consecutive fortnights would be computed for each participant. For example, if I started and was major contributor or was the major reviewer (depending on my chosen role for the streak) to an article on week 1, 3, 7, 9, 11, then my streaks are '1 and 3' (streak of 2), then '7 and 9 and 11' (streak of 3), I would score '3'.

Top 10 participant would get a T-shirt or mug or some other object with a number (i.e. 'This user archived a 6 fortnight streak in English Wikinews in 2026' worded fancily and with fancy picture.) delivered to their desired postal address.

Funding

Not sure how to fund this, this is being discussed in discussion linked at the top of the page.
