Thoughts on the elements of this page[edit]

Principles

Principles are policies or ideas or precedent that are accepted by the community. Principles should not generally be an opinion. ArbCom findings of fact are based on principles. Principles should not generally include contentious issues -- for example, WN:3RR is not generally challenged (though its application in specific cases may be), neither is WN:NOT. Some principles may not be enshrined in policy, but rather based in precedent and convention. Some of the principles listed on the /Workshop page will be used in the /Proposed decision.

Findings of fact

Findings of fact are simply that: "User:Chiacomo repeatedly spammed the water cooler with links to his homepage". Findings of fact, by the ArbCom, could also include conclusions based on the preponderance of evidence: "User:Chiacomo compelled meat puppets to support a policy requiring all Chickenlovers to be banned on sight." While it is possible technically to determine whether or not Chiacomo spammed the Water Cooler (using page histories), it may not be possible technically to prove that Chiacomo gathered meat puppets to support his proposal. Even though there may not technical evidence that Chiacomo recruited meat puppets, the ArbCom can still find that he did based on a preponderance of non-technical evidence. Some of the findings of fact will be used in the /Proposed decision

Remedies

Remedies are the solutions the ArbCom devises to modify behavior. For example, the ArbCom may require Chiacomo not to edit the Water Cooler for 3 months... Or to avoid all reference to chickenloving. Some of the remedies listed may be used in the /Proposed decision.

Enforcement

How will the remedy be enforced? The ArbCom may decide that Chiacomo shall be blocked for up to 2 hours each time he mentions Chickenloving... Some of the enforcement options listed will be used in the /Proposed decision.

Analysis of evidence

Arbitrators and others will analyze the assertions by the involved parties.
