Russian Wikinews attended one of the latest cultural events in Crimea.
On September 18, 2024, the Crimean Republican Universal Scientific Library named after Ivan Franko, located in the center of Simferopol, hosted a creative evening "A pen, a notebook, an empty pocket and... all the continents in the palm of hand ((ru))Russian language: Ручка, блокнот, пустой карман и… все континенты на ладони", where a self-study book was presented, intended for travelers who are able to think creatively and literary display what they saw.
The textbook "Hobo travel journalism", created by the author based on many years of experience, has two language versions — Russian and English, and is freely available on the Wikibooks, allowing anyone to familiarize themselves with the material without wasting time searching.
The presentation is timed to coincide with the 10th Literary Festival CrimeaBookFest-2024 ((ru))Russian language: КрымБукФест-2024.
The library staff retrieved newspapers from the archives containing publications by the author of the textbook, in particular an article published in the (now defunct) socio-political publication Crimean time ((ru))Russian language: Крымское время. The material with the revealing title “Notes of an international tramp” gives an objective idea of the direction indicated in the title of the textbook, and also clearly explains how it differs from a similar genre — travel journalism.
The visitors to the creative meeting heard about such an unusual self-study guide and the topic covered in it for the first time. Most of the listeners of the current lecture were not present at the 8th CrimeaBookFest festival, where the same author presented the e-book "Hobo Tourism", the principles of which underlie the actions of a vagabond journalist, so the creator of the methodological manual began to familiarize the audience from scratch. After providing basic information about the unusual book, the lecturer informed the people that a small selection of articles from past years can be read on Wikisource, and there are translations into English, Spanish and Chinese.
A slide show of photographs taken by the traveller on different continents served as a visual complement to what was said.
