The Indian Space Agency plans to launch the Chandrayaan-2 in July. If the flight is successful, India will become the fourth soft landing moon after the USSR, US and China.

The spacecraft includes an orbiter, a lander and a rover. If everything goes according to plan, the lander and rover will land near the lunar south pole in September, and will be the first vehicles to land in the region. The rover is expected to operate for 14 days, analyze the composition of the lunar regolith and send data and photos to Earth.

The first Indian lunar mission - Chandrayaan 1 - was launched in 2008 and included only an orbiter.
