A Bloomfield karate teacher was acquitted on charges of sexual assault. In a recent verdict, Edilberto “Eddie” Torres, the owner and instructor of Kokusai Karate Dojo in Bloomfield, New Jersey, has been acquitted of all charges related to allegations of sexual abuse. Torres was arrested on July 2, 2019 after an 11-year-old female student accused him of sexually abusing her during lessons at the karate studio. The charges he faced included sexual assault and endangering the welfare of a child.

The student claimed that Torres had touched her on multiple occasions between April and June 2019 before she reported the alleged abuse to the Bloomfield police. According to the official complaint filed against Torres, he allegedly rubbed her genitalia and groped her breasts over her clothes during lessons at Kokusai Karate Dojo. The accusations were serious and had significant legal implications for Torres.

During the trial, evidence was presented, and witnesses testified. Despite these allegations, the jury reached a verdict of acquittal, finding Torres not guilty of any wrongdoing. His defense attorney, Brett Rosen, expressed satisfaction with the outcome, stating that they are pleased Torres can now move on from this case. The trial’s conclusion in his favor means that Torres may return to his work at Kokusai Karate Dojo.
