Indian Army Act, 1911

Hi. Back in August you put a comment on the talk page for the List of Acts of Parliament of the United Kingdom Parliament, 1900-1919 that the Indian Army Act, 1911 appeared to be missing from the list. April Fool's Main Page 2007

Hi Doldrums. April Fool's Main Page 2007 project affects all five changeable sections on the mainpage. To have an April Fool's featured article appear on the mainpage on April 1st, some of the Wikinews mainpage rules may need to be bent. Thus, the project may need the approval and agreed upon cooperation from those running the Wikinews main page section. If would be great if at least one of the Wikinews administrators agreed to be a point person for the Wikinews aspect of the April Fool's Main Page 2007 project. Mostly, this would involve deciding which Wikinews mainpage rules could be bent, reviewing proposed Wikinews mainpage content to ensure it meets Wikinews mainpage requirements, and ensuring that this content made its way to the mainpage on April 1st. Hi Doldrums - nice approach on the Nadine Gordimer article. Maybe it will help to resolve the longstanding dispute between those of us (like me) who found this incident non-notable and those who thought that the race of the parties made it notable. --Lquilter 19:21, 26 March 2007 (UTC)

It is fair to say that the discussion on what to include (if anything) about the robbery of [Nadine Gordimer] has gone on for several months and has gotten us nowhere. Each side is still arguing its original points, and there seems to be no spirit of cooperation here, or willingness to compromise on key issues. Lquilter has repeatedly mentioned that mediation might be a good idea, and I must agree with her. Mediation is a voluntary process, and its results are non-binding. If both sides do not agree to the mediation, then it will not occur, for its results would then be meaningless. It is, however, the next step toward Arbitration, which is binding. The goal of mediation is to arrive at a solution that is acceptable to all parties. It is not to force one viewpoint on others. It is very important that all sides agree to this mediation. I am in the process of drafting the Request for Mediation. If you have a problem with mediation, or do not wish to participate, please speak up now at Talk:Nadine Gordimer#Mediation. Thank You, I have gone through the policy and do accept that my initial post (it was unsigned) may have not adhered to the guidelines in the strictest sense of the word.

However, I am clear enough that my other insertions were all in line with the policy. Infact, it convinces me that the current page, which you all have so zealously protected isn't what it should have been, if guidelines were to be implemented in toto.

Gordimer and policy

Hi. I've taken a strong line over the last few hours in relation to the BLP, NOR, and NPOV violations at the Gordimer entry. As a consequence the entry has been blocked for a week by user Durova (who did not take a position on the dispute). If you read through the section "BLP and notability" on the Gordimer talk page, you will see how I understand the policy issues. It is my belief that, having established the violations, it is up to editors to insist on enforcing policy correctly. I thus do not favour mediation, in particular given the lengthy history of the dispute. I have also referred the entry to the BLP noticeboard. Assistance Requested

Dear Doldrums,

I am requesting your assistance as a eurocentric user is taking a colonial view of indian history and biasing indian articles. The worst example is on the indo greek page where that user knitted together 3 maps (2 of which are inaccurate and mischaracterized) and stated that it was representative of the Indo Greeks[[2]]. He is commandeering indian history and aggrandizing greek influence by using obsolete and discredited sources.

• He created a map showing all of northern India (upto maharashtra and as far as bengal) under the Indo greeks.
• He has wrongly credited foreign influences ranging from astronomy (he originally wrote that the greeks gave india astronomy) to mahayana buddhism
• He wrote that the greeks helped chandragupta conquer the nandas (contradicted by eminent scholars)
• He has routinely committed original research by interpreting primary sources as he sees fit (i.e. kushan empire map)[[3]]
• He attacks users who try to reason with him and violates agreements

I do not want a biased indian nationalist version of history. I want a fair treatment of it that is representative of mainstream views--something which is difficult considering the colonial views that have hurt it (AIT, etc). As such, I have appealed to wikipedia administration. Please consider adding to the indo greek talk page as a show of support. Users vastu, pavanapuram,windy city dude, and mahitgar have already called that contributor's practices into question. Your assistance and voice would be welcome. Thank you for your time.

Hi Doldrums,

I just revised and restored a piece about rose and roy under controversies on Roy's entry. I hope you are satisfied with the changes, but if not, I request that you please modify the entry instead of outright deleting it. Censorship of a writer -- especially an Indian writer -- by an interviewer from a former (some would say current) Empire is a significant controversy and I was honestly aghast when you wrote that the notability of the event wasn't clear. What could be more controversial in writing or in subjects relevant to Roy's life (democracy, free speech, activism) than censorship?

India RfC, controversial tag

Hi Doldrums, I noticed from the India talk page that you're opinion is that the controversial tag be removed because this is unneccessary. I have reinstated the tag, without offence, for reasons I have outlined in the talk page. I do not wish to appear an Oxymoron, byt the Indian independence movement is a slightly controversial topic, with different people and organisations holding the opinion that contributions of those outside the congress have largely been ignored. Also, the current version is highly favourable of the Congress only view point, as well as reduces an enormous movement into five lines. You will also see that past attempts by editors to improve this section in an NPOV and reliable way has been opposed strongly, I believe for the same reasons I have cited above. As such, I'd like the tag to stay because this will invite a discussion and resolve the RfC. Hope you see my point. With regards.Rueben lys 10:49, 29 August 2007 (UTC)

Ref your recent edit on Adam's bridge article. Sorry I missed exact quote in the newspapers. However you may be interested to know that NASA has stated its statements are not official and however maintained satellite data is not sufficient enough to prove that Bridge is manmade or otherwise.[4]. I think there are numerous pages in the history of the page which better represent the theory than Dab's whitewashing. Please look through the history to pages around December-January 2006-2007. Like this version had loads of information which was rejected because apparently it was written by authors that don't deserve a mention. But the OIT is a fringe theory and fringe authors are the only ones who have anything good to say about it, so surely their say should be considered in an encyclopaedia. But you know witzel is the Editr-in-chief of electronic Journal of Vedic studies. That means he has absolute control over what he wants to publish. That qualifies it to be WP:SPS. Hi, Doldrums. Yes, I my opinion Peter Ernst, Graf von Mansfeld the elder refers to Peter Ernst I von Mansfeld-Vorderort. He had a son Ernst von Mansfeld, also called Peter Ernst II von Mansfeld-Vorderort. So, the usage of "the elder", and "the younger" is obvious.
