We were at least one million people there. With the ones that wanted to come but could not, we could have been something like 2,5-3 million. I do not overestimate, these are public opinions. There was at least 4-5 times people in streets that come to Tandoğan Square than those who are in Tandoğan Square.

The fact that this demonstration is genuine unlike Government-organized demonstrations makes it important.--RealDemonstration 22:24, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

new estimates

[edit]

The new estimates come from a Turkish-language source.

Ancak miting devam ederken izleyenler arasında katılan kişi sayısının 300 binle 500 bin arasına ulaştığı tahminleri yayıldı. Mitingin yapıldığı alandaki platformdan ise katılanların 1 milyon kişiye ulaşıldığı anonsu yapıldı.

I guess that "1 milyon" means a million, but I can't tell if the article is confirming or denying the claims. Can anyone independently verify? --SVTCobra 22:51, 15 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I've moved the numbers from the lead paragraph, let's not get into a revert war: numbers vary, but everyone agrees that it was big.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
what revert war? I reverted one time when the change was made without the source. I did not revert after the source was added, even though I couldn't read it. --SVTCobra 17:01, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
Calm down... I said "let's not get into a revert war", and I wasn't targetting you, since you have contributed very constructively!--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 18:18, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

If anyone here speaks Turkish, you could explain to the photographer why we need him to change the cc-by-nc-sa license to cc-by-sa.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 09:35, 16 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

seeing that the article has been published for 3 days already, i think it's better to add a link to a commons gallery of the images than modify the article to include the images. Wikinews articles are not works in progress and shld not be continually changed or updated after publishing - WN:NOT and {{Old}}. –Doldrums(talk) 20:08, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I am merely trying to help, feel free to edit over. I would however prefer these images be used instead. -- Cat chi? 20:17, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
and we appreciate the effort. we too, would've loved to have used images of the event rather than a stock photo, if only they could've been added in time. hoping we'll be faster the next time. –Doldrums(talk) 20:18, 18 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
We had an image which was deleted, so we had an image in time, which we could replace with a new one. I think it's kinda counterproductive to follow the guidelines so strictly, I can't believe this would be the reason these rules exist.--Steven Fruitsmaak (Reply) 16:41, 19 April 2007 (UTC)Reply
