This is Vietnam all over again. Tricky Dicky was "winning" because they were inflicting massive casualties on the enemy. All part of some misguided campaign to "win the hearts and minds". It brings to mind a quip I heard a while ago, When asked if he believed Iraq was like Vietnam, GWB responded "What's Iraq got to do with drinking beer in Texas?" --Brian McNeil / talk 09:27, 2 September 2007 (UTC)
- For everyone's sake, I hope you are wrong. Both situations are inadvertent results of forming resistance to an enemy in an area and it becoming corrupt, both are results of wars with other powers (Imperial Japan and the U.S.S.R/China respectively), both are conflicts that started out as supporting a third party. Both conflicts taking longer than expected and making seemingly little progress, both involving Guerrilla warfare in a war-torn, seemingly un-inhabitable land previously an ally, both involving the enemy framing the U.S. to make it look like they intentionally kill civilians, both resulting in massive casualties on both sides (but more on the Guerrillas side; they drag away their wounded AND often dress like civilians), both having public support against it due to media incompetence and minipulation. The big problem with this resulting in a general retreat and enemy victory is that unlike Vietnam were they seemed to mind their own region after we left, these people want to hunt down and kill/oppress us all. Also unlike vietnam, were the local forces, wile supported by China and the USSR, only cared about their area, the terrorists have already started operations in numerous nations, like the bombings that got a few allies to pull out.
Whoo! That gave me a hand cramp. Contralya 06:39, 10 September 2007 (UTC)
