Unless the French government is planning to completely expunge the former names of these places off the public record, changing their current names is not even CLOSE to being historical erasure. Keeping those names in this day and age is quite simply a sign of complete disrespect for the black community.

How does changing place names affect people's ability to express themselves? You are still allowed to call the places their old names if you want to, and the old names of the places will forever be recorded in old books and on websites; there is no mind control or historical revisionism involved.
