Sorry to hear this. This is due to the ineffectiveness of the Greek government: we had the same situation in the Republic of Macedonia few years ago, but due to tight forest policing, public awareness campaigns, better staffing/equipment/co-ordination of firefighters, and other preventive measures, we had no major fires this year... Maybe you forget the total different climate of North and South Greece. The same wildfires take place in South Spain, and Portugal62.1.140.139 (talk) 09:55, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

No, there are fires also in Halkidiki in Greece, which is less than 60km to the south... It's something to do with prevention, early warning, and rapid reaction... Crnorizec (talk) 00:00, 27 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Do not blame your government, its great and you are lucky you have a government that cares for you. The Hellenic government (see New Democracy) is more an enemy than a friend for Greeks. It is not only the issue on fires, they have also stolen millions of Euros which were public money (and none of them, ever got punished), destroyed our economy, put into the Greece a massive amount of illegal immigrats that we cannot absorb... they have destroyed everything in greece and failed in external politics. The worse? The second political party which is now prefered from the people is pretty much the same thing than the current one. Wildfires may seem one of the worst things ever happened to greece but its just one of the many disasters they have caused the last four years...--Woka (talk) 07:42, 24 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
