Sure. The whole Mediterranean region is a fault boundary between the Eurasian and African tectonic plates, which is why it is one of the cradles of civilization - driven by the availability of copper.

You may be thinking of the 365 Crete earthquake or the Minoan eruption.

I imagine history will continue to repeat itself for generations to come.
