I would be happy with a carbom tax providing we didn't continue to export coal which is the real problem

Bring on the new tax

Hi,

For many years of my life I have been a passionate Liberal Party supporter. I've worked hard, I've saved and invested a lot of money and am very financially comfortable. The thing is I always believed I needed the Liberal Party in power in order to keep building wealth. However these last few years have taught me that it makes no difference, I still make more money. New taxes hurt the poor, not the rich, yet the poor are the ones who vote Labor. They will have to pay and suffer accordingly. I've got no sympathy for them of course, I don't care if the cost of living goes up so high for average Australians that they can no longer cope. They made their own bed and now they have to lie in it. This is what they get for allowing this government to exist. For my childrens sake of course I want the Liberals back in power to give them every opportunity I had to make something of themselves. Its gotten to a point that I believe most middle Australians loathe success, they crave poverty and they are natural born losers. Conciously they will deny it but subconciously they relish in failure, every action in their lives is a psychic sabotage to set themselves up for continual fall after fall. This new tax on their standard of living will be another smack in the face for working families bringing on the subconcious masochism they desire. I hope eventually they will wake up and face reality. This ingrained culture of failure needs to stop.

I love the right winger. "I've got no sympathy for them of course, I don't care if the cost of living goes up so high for average Australians that they can no longer cope." I am bet money that you are a Christian too and that you have WWJD bracelet. You people keep complaining about taxes but do not mind spending when it comes to war. The tax is needed to cut down carbon otherwise, you will not be able to enjoy your beloved money because you will be under water due to climate change. but again climate change is science and you are not interested in facts.

This article looks like a free advertisement for one political party that is interupted with an equally biased message from the opposing party. Rather than provide information such as a comparison of how much energy prices would change with and without the carbon tax the article just parrot's the politician's messages. Given the revolts in the mid-east and north-africa digifying this prediction of a 'revolt' in Australia gives people a completely wrong impression of the state of Australian politics.

Perhaps I don't understand Australian currency but should this not be A$0.65 on a litre not A$0.065. If this latter is correct I say big deal I pay £1.33 - up 25p in a year or so!

In response to some of the other opinions although I agree that putting oneself at a distict disadvantage by heavy taxation is not the way to tackle climate change, I must stress that there is no question about the reality of the phenomenon. Companies are sponsoring me to research ways to make renewable, potentially carbon neutral biogas more viable; this IS a real problem

It's just fearmongering.

Australia is being conned by the global warming fearmongering. Maybe they should make the tax optional so only those who have been brainwashed into thinking they care about the environment would waste their money on such nonsense.

It is an Idea that should spread to the us,but I do think it will because corporations can not make money on it. maybe it will come to pass if they can

I am a small business owner, and am frustrated with this current Government's incompetence of overspending and wasteful mismanagement of the taxpayers money on unnessecary projects (ie. insulation scheme, education stimulus, land based fast broadband... to name a few)and now to send Australians to the wall by introducing a hairbrained idea, promoted by the most idealistic but illogical party in Australian politics (The Greens). A tax on Carbon is ony going to drive more Australian businesses offshore and boost imports from China ( a country that won't care for carbon emmissions)In a essence we are only moving the worlds carbon emmisssions to another country whilst screwing the Australian people, but I guess that the fools running this Country didn't factor this in, with their narrow minded vision to impress a handful of countries in reducing carbon emmissions. I am now urging a Australians that will be affected by these new taxes, to stand up in opposition to this current Government and Vote no Confidence on the grounds of illogical policies and incompetent money management.
