wait wat?[edit]

How is plumbing against the Amish code? Don't they use modern tools for construction? Why not plumbing? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 64.228.128.199 (talk) 18:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That was exactly my thought. But there are ways that the Amish can use modern technological advances twithout going against their religion. Such as organic powders dumped into the sewage hole to keep it up to code.Jodrre (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 22:21, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's just fucking disgusting.

Couldn't they just dig a pit under the outhouse for the waste? That's what they do out in the woods near hiking trails. --Kraftlos (talk) 05:51, 17 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Swartzentruber amish don't use any modern technology. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.118.187.114 (talk) 00:59, 20 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That also means that they will not answer on Wikipedia and can not defend themselves. Actually I do admire that. I would see it rather hard to live without a computer, but in a nostalgic way it does has a nice ring to it  :-) --HappyInGeneral (talk) 05:31, 28 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

To solve their problem,[edit]

i hope that these interesting people will move all their members to a more remote piece of rural land where they can be surrounded with other amish instead of the moderns. and a place that has very lax codes and zoning. then they can actually dig a real outhouse and whatever else. sounds like they are now stuck in a community that has grown up around them and they need to relocate to keep their low tech lifestyle. but also, please would they realize that God is not opposed to intelligent and simple methods of sewage disposal, which they could learn from reading about other methods that are acceptable and natural, just that, they have not found them out yet. (advice- don't ever use a cesspool, they disintegrate after about 30-40 years and become a deep and hidden life threatening hazard.) Orchid (talk) 06:57, 22 January 2010 (UTC) Or they could try accepting technology ($20 says they wont)[reply]

Ahaha retard.

possible solution used in India[edit]

A friend sent me this interesting video which addresses the same problem but for India where intestinal disease is the leading cause of death in children. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dX3fkRt6XHI&feature=player_embedded

It is an Ecosan toilet which is virtually an elevated outhouse. The urine and feces are processed separately and organically thereby creating no odor. When decomposition is complete the results can be safely used for rich fertilizer. Check it out.
