Assuming this article means that £130 is the amount of loss sustained from not backdating the wages of the LOWEST paid police officer during the 3 month period of September-December; then we can assume £130 is 2.5% of their quarterly salary (I'm also assuming that they're not taking in to consideration their wages from December which won't have been paid yet). This gives a MINIMUM salary of £20,800 pa. Of course that was before their 2.5% payrise, so it's now a touch more. Now... I may live in an underpriveleged area but I don't know anyone who is on CLOSE to that wage. I'm not going to bother calculating what their fat cats at the top are on. IMHO they can all go fish. The top end they're mentioning gives a salary of 42k. --Brian McNeil / talk 09:16, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Brian, I had worked it out myself to be honest (£42,240 by my calcs) but I felt the minimum figure of £20k made my point well enough and I thought the £40k figure might just be more than some folks blood pressure can take. I'm not attempting to rubbish the work of the English bobby, I have my gripes with some of the laws they're told to enforce but never with the force itself, but their wages should bear some relation to what the rest of us have to get by on. I did 5yrs of engineering at college to earn less than what they complain of and I know many people who just wish they could earn as much as I do.
. <- here's the world's smallest violin going out to the £20k starving policeman. Shane.Bell 10:03, 13 December 2007 (UTC)Reply
