FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign

On Wednesday, Christopher Wray, FBI Director of the US announced that he will resign prior to US President-elect Donald Trump taking office.[Source] Trump has asserted that he will fire Wray upon taking office in January.[Source]

Wray said the decision was made after careful deliberation.[Source]

President-elect Trump previously nominated Wray to replace former FBI Director James Comey, whom he fired in 2017 during his first term as president, after falling out of favor with him in relation to his investigations into alleged ties between Trump's 2016 presidential campaign and Russia.[Source][Source]

Trump nominated Kash Patel, who is a former aide of his, as the new head of the FBI.[Source]

Wray commented, "In my view, this is the best way to avoid dragging the bureau deeper into the fray, while reinforcing the values and principles that are so important to how we do our work".[Source]

Trump called the resignation "a great day for America".[Source]
