GWR: 52-year-old Cameroonian makes history as world’s fastest marathon wearing a toghu

Vanguard (Nigeria) - Afowiri Kizito Fondzenyuy, a US-based Cameroonian, has earned a Guinness World Record as the fastest marathon runner in a traditional Toghu outfit.


Fondzenyuy, who competes in marathons worldwide while wearing Toghu, the traditional attire of Cameroon's grass-field regions, To raise funds for charity causes achieved this recognition after participating in the Tokyo Marathon in Japan in the early month of March.


According to Guinness World Records, "The fastest marathon wearing a Toghu (male) is 4 hrs 24 mins 2 secs, achieved by Afowiri Fondzenyuy in Tokyo, Japan, on 2 March 2024."

Guinness World Records also noted, "Afowiri has run five marathons in Toghu attire. He made previous attempts at some Abbott World Marathon Majors races before breaking the record at the Tokyo Marathon."
