Max Verstappen maintains his lead in the overall standings after winning the 2024 Canadian Grand Prix. It was a relatively tough victory, the Dutch man needed the presence of the safety car to secure the win.

George Russell, starting from pole position, led for over 20 laps on a soaking wet track. From lap 21 to lap 22, Lando Norris consecutively overtook Verstappen and Russell to take the lead.

On lap 26, Logan Sargeant lost control and hit the barrier, bringing the safety car onto the track. Verstappen, who was running in second place at the time, and Russell-third reacted very quickly, both pitting to change tires. Meanwhile, Lando Norris took an extra lap to do the same. As a result, the Mclaren's driver dropped back to third place after exiting the pit lane. In the remaining laps, Norris only managed to overcut Russell to finish in second place.

Russell finished third, just half a second ahead of Lewis Hamilton, who climbed from seventh on the grid and grabbed the fastest lap point.

For Max Verstappen, this is his sixth win of the season, extending his lead over Charles Leclerc to 56 points. In this race, both Leclerc and his teammate Carlos Sainz had to retire. Red Bull's Sergio Perez shared the same fate with them.

The 2024 Formula 1 season has completed nine of 24 races. The next race will take place at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya on June 23.
