At least six people are dead and more are injured in the Netherlands following an explosion on Saturday that destroyed a three-story apartment block in the city of the Hague.
In addition to the confirmed casualties, other residents of the apartment block are currently missing following the explosion. Authorities have stated that four individuals have been rescued from the rubble and hospitalized. However, Hague mayor Jan van Zanen expressed pessimism towards the prospect of additional survivors being located, and advised citizens to prepare for the "worst case scenario".
The cause of the explosions is currently unknown. Authorities are investigating a vehicle that was seen departing the scene at high speeds, and have implored witnesses to come forward.
Condolences were extended to the victims of the explosion by the Dutch Royal Family, who released a statement saying, "We sympathise with all those who have been personally affected or who fear for the fate of their loved ones".
