Rochester Hills, Michigan water park shooting leaves nine people wounded, suspect dead

A shooting at the Brooklands Plaza Splash Pad waterpark, in the Rochester Hills area of Detroit, Michigan, wounded nine people on Saturday, July 15 at around 5 p.m. local time (2100 GMT). Police located the suspect in a house in Shelby Charter Township, Michigan, where he took his own life, according to authorities. The case is still under investigation.

Oakland County Sheriff's Office on Sunday morning identified the suspect, a 42 year old man from Shelby Charter Township. Police described the gunman walking impassively back to his car after the violent shooting.

Twenty eight shells were found at the location by Oakland County sheriff’s detectives. Police said the suspect got out of his vehicle at the water park and began to shoot a gun. A sheriff's deputy went to the scene within a couple minutes of being dispatched by emergency. Police said they were unsure of any connections between the suspect and the other people.

Reported several members of a family were victims of the shooting. An 8 year old boy was shot in the head and is in critical condition, his 4 year old brother was also wounded in the leg and is in stable condition, and their mother was in critical condition after being shot in the stomach and leg. The other six people, all 30 years or older, were in stable condition, including a husband and wife and a 78 year old man.
