OR

[edit]

I interviewed Mr. Halterman in IRC for all his quotes. DragonFire1024 (Talk to the Dragon) 02:45, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Alternative

[edit]

Doesn't he specifically say that it's NOT supposed to be an alternative to wikimania, or did I misunderstand that? Lyellin 02:52, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

You understood right, it is not supposed to be an alternative. But rather a local option. Many attendees including myself will be at both--Cspurrier 02:57, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
Then I will express a modicum of concern over the title, and possibly POV. Lyellin 02:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
And rightly so. Please remove any references to "alternative" if at all possible. It's an alternative to some people but not for all people and that is not the goal here. TheCustomOfLife 02:58, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply
BTW it probably should be Wikimedia Conference of the Americas--Cspurrier 03:17, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Still waiting for WMF to give the offical yes --Cspurrier 12:13, 15 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

Controversy

[edit]

Is it worth mentioning that a number of non-US Wikimedians didn't attend the Boston event in 2006 because of the very same issues brought up about Egypt (human rights, free speech, safety)?

Also, sodomy was illegal in Georgia less than 10 years ago, and Georgia voters voted 75% for a gay-marriage ban in 2004. It seems like a stretch to sell Atlanta as the the gay-friendly alternative to Alexandria. --Evan 13:45, 2 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
