Breaking News[edit]

Live news feed from Reuters has pictures of the landslide. I pulled from Reuters and the joint Manila Times / ABN website for the report. There are plenty of pictures and video, but I am unsure to what level I can add or use them under Fair Use. This is also important enough to be added to the Second Slot and I wanted group approval before I did so. Drew 17:54, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

It only qualifies for the local-type byline intro if you're actually there, and I suspect you're probably glad to not be anywhere near the place. Needs some categories for future historians, but that's about it. --Brian McNeil / talk 21:03, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Thank you[edit]

For bringing this story forward. It is super important; we tend to be angloamerican -centric here so you will have to be super aggressive to get the story the attention it deserves, I think. Neutralizer 22:11, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

BBC Source[edit]

Updated it with BBC information updated a short time ago, this is a very sad story and it's good to have it as breaking news so people are aware of such horrific devastastion! Aladowellin 23:50, 17 February 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Some background, Leyte and logging[edit]

There have been several devastating mudslides in Leyte over the years, and the soil destabilization from logging (legal and illegal) has been alleged (and denied), moratoria called for (and ignored). There is much more news here than we are reporting at the moment, just Google "Leyte Logging Mudslide". Categories should also be updated accordingly.
