Good Stuff[edit]

Good reaction Dan; for the Tsunami, wikipedia hammered us, for the Popes Funeral we were on par with wikipedia, for this we have pulled ahead! Looking at the BBC's, CNN's, Reuter's, Wikinew's and others, I ferel we have the very best coverage and are most up to date at any given time. We already have two excellent and factually correct stories (this and the stocks one), I might start another if I can find the right angle. → CGorman (Talk) 7 July 2005 11:53 (UTC)

It isn't a contest you know... (67.10.56.62 forgot to sign at 07:56, July 7, 2005) - Please remember to sign your discussion contributions.

I know it may seem insensitive, but at Wikinews we want to be the best, to beat the establishment to deliver the best quality with no bias and todays effort by the team has been great. → CGorman (Talk) 7 July 2005 11:58 (UTC)

It's a shame it's a competition. Wikipedia should really have some kind of policy to send people over to wikinews if they want to write about current events. Proto 7 July 2005 12:05 (UTC)

  • Certainly people should be encouraged to come from Wikipedia to Wikinews and contribute when events like this happen. One way to encourage this is to interwiki link from Wikipedia articles to Wikinews articles using the {{Wikinews}} template. Another way is to make the Wikinews coverage as good (i.e. multiple in-depth articles with pictures and fully cited sources) as this so that Wikipedians realize all of the room that there is at Wikinews for writing about current events, and realize the collation of cited material from multiple news sources that Wikinews does so that Wikipedia doesn't have to. • I concur that it isn't a contest; however, I suppose it's healthy to measure up once in a while to Wikipedia or, better, mainstream news agencies. Of course, given the fact that these agencies are still doing most of the legwork, I wouldn't get ahead of ourselves. I was very impressed by the independent photo coverage but I think that we still have a long way to go. That being said, great work for everyone that was involved way before I woke up. - McCart42 (talk) July 7, 2005 16:17 (UTC)

Traffic[edit]

Just to let you all know, our traffic figure for today should be great. I've "welcomed" about 150 people to wikinews today, easily the most ever on a single day; I usually only get to welcome 10-20 max. → CGorman (Talk) 7 July 2005 14:26 (UTC)

The traffic of all communication lines are absolutely experiencing heavy traffic. Mobile phones, wired phones and the Internet in generall. Like the 911, 7.7/05 attracts a lot of attention. Tdp 7 July 2005 14:54 (UTC)

Excellent display of what Wikinews can be[edit]
