Jimbo Wales plenary[edit]

Jimbo started by playing the Wikipedia/Colbert report clip Wikipedia's past present and future emphasized the idea that has become Wikipedia's mission "Imagine a world in which every single person on the planet is given free access to the sum of all human knowledge. That's what we're doing"

milestones

discussed the Siegenthaler error and the traffic increase after-wards the Nature article we are not as good as Britannica .. yet in the coming year "a turn towards quality" "We have always had this goal, but we all know we're not there yet - in the coming years one of the themes is going to be a turn towards quality"

"the projects have been far ahead of the foundation's organizational capacity" "but the foundation is maturing as and organization" we need to be organized enough to get grants

Brad hired as General Counsel for WM Foundation, and also serving as "interim CEO" Brad speaking: Brad found Wikipedia from the lessig blog Ten Things That Will Be Free went looking for the foundation glad to find it near where he lives had lunch with Jimbo in Dec after emailing him in August and become general council


OLPC will be including Wikipedia as the first element in the content repository


Board just approved Wikiversity "a center for the creation and use of free learning mateials and activites" "create and host a range of free-content multilingual learning materials for all age groups in all languages" host and foster research based in part on existing resources in Wikiversity and other wikimedia projects

6 month beta trail period in three languages launching soon

Wikiwyg Socialtext and Wikia working togeter to port Wikiwyg release date uncertain but Wikia and Socialtext devoting fulltime engineers to the project
