US air marshalls? patrolling flight from Holland to India?[edit]

[1]

Is this normal now? Is it news? Neutralizer 19:36, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Well, it is a U.S. carrier so it falls under U.S. jurisdiction. --+Deprifry+ 19:49, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
good point, I was wondering whether that is true. But I think the passengers should be advised in case they do not want to be under the authority of american law enforcement during their flight from holland to india...and I am also not sure if it is true. If a russian based airline's plane is travelling from New York to LA (or from Jerusalem to Paris) can KGB officers handcuff americans and lead them off the plane? The passengers chose to subject themselves to U.S. law when they booked a flight on a U.S. airline. To the second point: I presume that they could handcuff them on the plane but whether they could lead them off depends on the local authorities since the Russians would only have jurisdiction while on the plane. And I believe the KGB was dissolved quite a while ago ;). --+Deprifry+ 20:02, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Ok, thanks for explaining. Neutralizer 20:13, 25 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
This might be 1 of the laws. Neutralizer 01:19, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
Irrespective of whether or not the U.S marshalls were within their rights to do what they did, I seriously doubt whether the racially motiviated harassment of Indian citizens will bode well for Indo-U.S relations, especially at a crucial time as now, when the two nations are "cosying up" after a long, frigid period. But then again, I doubt whether these men have any knowledge of dimplomacy. In any case the Dutch are already facing the fallout of their actions. PVJ(Talk) 05:13, 27 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]
