The relevance about Ford being an appointed President is that he was the only President that never was elected as a President or a Vice President that becomes President. There of course have been Vice Presidents who became President when the President died in office, but they had elected as Vice President by the electoral college (see 25th Amendment, §2. – 19:15, 4 July 2006 (UTC)

Possible additional factor for his losing the 1976 Presidential race: His insistence during a debate that Poland was not being dominated by the Soviet Union. -- 15:53, 27 October 2006 (UTC)
