Please give source for this quote: "but officials say that her condition is stable and that her case may be the result of human to human transmission."

Well these are not quotes for one. But stable is a decent term IMO given she is not dead and they never said she is dying. They make the suggestion and the suspicion and are worried that it is human to human transmission.

I think the article is very well-written, but these 2 line above take away from it...we can't know what the health ministry "believes" and apparently no official has "said" that her case may the result of H2H...Thanks for the article!

Fact-gathering

This is an important story, so we should try to understand it and make sense of it as best as possible. From my reading of the sources, human to human bird flu transmission is NOT suspected in the case of the two children, but IS suspected in the case of the Nurse, who had close contact with the children. In which case the article as it stands is misleading. Am I understanding correctly, or am I missing something? Frankie Roberto 14:46, 3 June 2006 (UTC)

Here's a summary of the facts gleaned from the sources. IMO, we should have at least two sources for each, before publishing. Please feel free to edit these as more sources confirm the information, and work the article on the basis of these...

• Two children (siblings) have died in Indonesia, a seven year-old girl and a nine [or ten] year old boy.[1][2]
• The seven year old girl died of bird flu, as confirmed by local lab test.[3][4]
• The nine/ten year old boy had similar symptoms to his sister, but was buried before any tests could be taken.[5]
• The two siblings lived near a poultry slaughter house [6]
• The girl had been in contact with sick poultry - Nyoman Kandun, a senior Health Ministry official. [7]
• Two siblings, 18-year old Ad and 10-year old Ai, have died of bird flu. [8][9]
• A nurse, 25, identified as 'Ci', who treated bird-flu patients has been admitted to hospital after showing bid-flu like symptoms. [10][11]
• Hadi Jusuf - head of bird flu treatment at hospital, has suggested that human-to-human transmission of the virus to the nurse will be suspected if she has the virus. [12][13]
• The virus has not mutated [14] [15]
• WHO confirms no evidence of human to human transmission. [16]

Well the WHO is wrong ;) as this would be the second cluster. Seven of Eight members of a family died of human to human transmission (Human to human transmission of the H5N1 Avian Flu may have infected seven Indonesian family members). The ages are conflicting reports. I saw the same thing but put the first ages I saw. The virus HAS mutated...in Turkey (Turkish teens died of mutated strain of bird flu)...well only in two teens. But has not yet turned up again. You are right on the other parts though...but somehow, I don't see how this would be the first case of h2h and how the WHO says there has been none...h2h in a family...but not as a pandemic.
