Good question. The LDP lost the latest election and turned into the second party of the House of Counselors. So at that time, but before the Diet schedule began, it is reported he had been recommend to step down. In the day after of this annoucement, his health problem was reported (he is now in a hospital). A Japanese political critic, Tachibana Takashi recently reported there was a possible press coverage of financial scandal of Abe own, but I think the latter is rather a rumor, so it is too risky to feature based on a single source.
