Talk:Merkel: Georgia will join NATO
The article and its title.
It is imho necessary with a response/reaction from Russia to the statments in first paragraph and title. It would add good dramaturgy and keep article from beeing onesided and possibly POV. Looking after some usfull stuff. international (talk) 22:29, 17 August 2008 (UTC)
- There's no Russian response afaik. I've checked English service of RIA Novosti as well as Interfax and Russian media for this. Lysy (talk) 05:39, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- Title is inaccurate,I think. Merkel's comment was qualified with "if it wants too" and there is no assurance it will still want to a year or 2 from now (even though it is very likely it will still want to). Maybe Merkel:Georgia will be welcome at Nato would be better? Wishmaster68 (talk) 14:17, 18 August 2008 (UTC)
- I understand that it might seem a bit tabloidish, but to quote Merkel in full (with the "if it wants to and it does want to") would be long and difficult. On the other hand to claim that she "promises" something would be an over-interpetation. What she said sounded promising but there's a nuance to it. So I think it's best to leave the abbreviated quote of her. It is attributed by the "Merkel:" prefix, so it's clear that it's not a fact statement but something she said herself. Does it make sense ?
