Great article. So many questions re; this subject matter. 4 Canadians were killed by a "friendly fire" bombing done by U.S. pilots who had taken the "go pills". the peaceful island of Molokai has an epidemic of "crystal" use among the native kids. then there's the diet pills....just amazing that meth is legal in some forms and marijuana is illegal in all forms...oh yeah; marijuana is a weed..if it were legal, nobody could make any money off of it...I keep forgetting my mantra "follow the money". You're probably also aware that tobacco meets all the requirements of a Schedule I controlled substance.
1) SCHEDULE I.
(A) The drug or other substance has a high potential for abuse.
(B) The drug or other substance has no currently accepted medical use in treatment in the United States.
(C) There is a lack of accepted safety for use of the drug or other substance under medical supervision.
Sounds like tobacco to me. --RossKoepke 05:04, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
ban tobacco and I strangle the US gov't, ban booze and I maybe do the same, legalize marijianna and make the 3rd strike, yer out! -Edbrown05 05:23, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
booze came about as something potent to drink, I forgive that, tobacco came about to hide the odor of stinky people, I forgive that... pot?
  • I don't use pot but I've got friends who use it everyday with no apparent problems except putting off decision making. I also have friends who began drinking socially for business bonding and now are drunks with lots of problems. I never knew anyone who got tobacco caused cancer; but I hear it's a brutal side - effect. I think pot was used as a natural herbal remedy for lots of stuff (insomnia, anxiety, glacoma,)by numerous peoples all over the world before being banned;[[1]] and I think it is really safe compared to alcohol and tobacco and even the prescription drugs for anxiety and insomnia..... The fact that even the non-intoxicating strain of the hemp plant(which is the best fiber in the world) is still banned in the US tells me its all about money; (they don't want the competition for the cotton and polyester manufacturers). all just my opinion. Just as an aside, I have been trying for years,without success, to find out where Purdue Pharma gets all the opium they use in their blockbuster dope drug, Oxycontin. They ain't talking... but I think the road leads to Afghanistan's Taliban; but I can't prove it. Paulrevere2005 17:21, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

I'd check the patent on 'oxycodone' (the drug used in the propreitary Oxycontin delivery system). I would be seriously surprised if the manufacturing process actually used opium. --RossKoepke 20:15, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
Heck while you're at it, try Fentanyl, Morphine, Codeine, and other opiates. I don't think the manufacturing process for any of these actually use opium. Most organic chemicals can be synthesized using relatively unrelated chemicals. Ex. methamphetamine isn't produced by attaching a methyl group to amphetamine, it's created by a complicated series of reactions of different phenethylenes. --RossKoepke 20:17, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply
  • I've found this;

"Oxycodone is an opium derivative" and "opiate-based drug" [2] [3] Paulrevere2005 20:30, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Oh, I get it now! If the drug is for personal recreational use, damn that's illegal, but if corporations profit from it, no problem! -- NGerda 20:35, July 11, 2005 (UTC)
Nail on head!! (and, fwiw, in my understanding there are TONS of ways to synthesize something like methamphetamine, some using more dangerous chems than others. unless Sudafed is flammable.) ;) --CGW 20:46, 11 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

Are MDMA, MDA et al amphetamines?

[edit]

My understanding is that they aren't. Could someone provide a cite of where they are classfied in that way. I'm not talking about street Ecstacy pills, which often are cut with amphetamines.

The 'A' in in all of those stand for amphetamine. MDMA is Methylene-dioxy-meth-amphetamine. Meth is Meth-amphetamine (amphetamine with a methyl group attached). Note the similarities between these chemicals. You can identify the Amphetamine structure in each image.
Amphetamine
Methamphetamine
MDA
Dextroamphetamine
MDMA

The awkward question is "Is the "doping" and "sickening" and "dumbing down" of the masses done(allowed) on purpose?"

[edit]

Well, Stanford University's Hoover Institute's economics research fellow, Antony Sutton, points out that;

  • A; There's a lot of money to be made by and power to be gained by having a doped up, stupid and sick population under your control(easier to steal from(Enron) and lie to(WMD))
  • B; Doped up, stupid and sick people are easier to control than healthy and smart people.

But..this is all starting to sound a bit "conspiratorial"..sort of like the WMD and "axis of evil" conspiracy theories..so it must not be true; and even if it were, most of us would rather not know or think about it..imo. Paulrevere2005 13:57, 12 July 2005 (UTC)Reply

--> snort and guffle <-- Sure it's true, but Skull n Bones? They ain't that smart if Dubya is one of them! And people ain't dumb, even if they're not formally educated. Uh oh, why'd I say thatEdbrown05 01:33, 13 July 2005 (UTC) searching for save buttonReply
